we don't have a vaccine for it , we don't know the source and it's popping up amongst people who have no obvious ties to previous infected members. If the numbers reach a large enough populace, without a cure or a source of spread......lots more people will die.

Spreads very quickly, that's what makes it scary. But seems to not be too bad unless you're older or already sick.

Last week, the world was saying China did a good job containing it, and now it explodes in Italy and South Korea, freaking everyone out again

I've heard it has up to a 24 day incubation period where it is contagious and people can be spreading it to others unknowingly. If this happens in big cities and a lot of people get sick, a lot of people could end up dying. I think only around 3% of people die from it, but 3% can be a lot when millions are involved.

It isn't the end of the world, but it's definitely something that could end up being bad.

if it stops globalization and mass immigration into America and Europe then I guess that's a light at the end of the tunnel

CDC: 80,000 people died of flu last winter (2018) in U.S

"Seasonal flu kills 291,000 to 646,000 people worldwide each year, according to a new estimate that's higher than the previous one of 250,000 to 500,000 deaths a year.

The new figures from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other groups were published Dec. 13 in The Lancet medical journal."

OP believes CCP numbers, haha very naive.
If they're building 12 emergency hospitals around Wuhan, maybe it is a big deal.

FYI no-one is confirmed recovered yet, that will only be known in the future, it looks like it might go dormant and destroy the immune system even harder than HIV does.

Also as it stands, the R0 of 2.5 means it is set to infect 60-80% of the world if not contained, and a 2% death rate means around 90 million deaths.

Its not.

They are making it out to be a huge deal to distract us.
"To be a warrior is not a simple matter of wishing to be one. It is rather an endless struggle that will go on to the very last moment of our lives. Nobody is born a warrior, in exactly the same way that nobody is born an average man. We make ourselves into one or the other."-- Carlos Castaneda

The fear is that China is lying about how bad the virus is. The good news is China never lies and their numbers can be trusted.

The deadly coronovirus in other countries is an entirely different virus and not related to China.

That about sums it up

/China

For real though. China is lying. Main stream media is ginning up fear. The truth is somewhere in between.

This whole virus and related effects is definitely displaying how most humans are no smarter than many generations ago. It was semi-amusing at first then you get that concerned look when you realize people are being serious.
