What are you basing an almost guarantee on? It may differ in a secure .gov facility and a commercial setting. Different satellites, different set of analysis programs to work with. I haven't worked with any gov imagery analysts in 6 or 7 years but at that point most of the analysis was done by a human. That balance may have shifted.

The gov programs may be behind as is often the case.

Pretty much everybody in this state is closing school for a couple weeks or "indefinitely". Ohio shut down K-12 for 3 weeks. Universities here may not reconvene IRL for the rest of the school year. Other schools may not either. PRetty much by next week you're going to see the nation's schools all closed.

Flu season tapering off, yet CDC still refusing to test flu symptom patients. What in the actual ****...
I feel like they simply don't want to test at this point to avoid adding to the official number. Not testing on this level is reckless, flat out.

Right, how could stopping hundreds - thousands of kids from being in confined spaces and possibly spreading COVID-19 amongst each other to take home to mom, dad, siblings, etc possibly help in any way?

Lies lies and more lies. The more you test, the more the official numbers go up, the more the people who died of "flu" or "pneumonia" will be recognized as actually being COVID-19, the more people will realize what's coming and the less control the .gov will have.

Yes because cutting your work force numbers because they don't have child care is a GREAT idea. A large majority of daily jobs aren't shutting down. If the kids don't have somewhere to go, the parents cant afford it, etc., you're taking experienced qualified people out of the field


Also, the flu season isn't over and given the issues with vaccines this year, it's far more reasonable right now to assume that a person has the flu if they haven't been exposed to coronavirus directly

My theory? It's been here (i.e., all over the country) since Christmas and people are only now figuring it out. Talk to people you know. Lots of people in my circle of family and friends have been getting (and thankfully recovering from) non-flu respiratory symptoms accompanied by fever since the holidays. In some cases it lasted weeks...the same dry cough, fever, etc.

I think the "confirmed" cases are going to rise as testing increases, but will in no way mirror the prevalence of this thing in society.

In a way this actually makes me feel better about the situation. I suspect that the CFR in Singapore is closer to the real deal. We are likely identifying only critical cases here that report to hospitals.

I'm not sure either...this theory is based on the sudden appearance of similar symptoms, and the dodgy timeline coming from the land of rubber dog chit.

I don't buy that they contacted the WHO over "several" cases of pneumonia, in a part of the world where people will run a toddler over and not even stop to scrape it off the pavement. I suspect that they knew they had a hot potato on their hands as of 31 Dec because there were thousands, not "several," similar cases. Would they even notice a few people with those symptoms? Doubtful.

Real life here. A close friend of nime and her daughter were going to Disneyland this Monday for a week. Found Disneyland is now closed! Luckily, she paid for the vacation insurance, and got a full refund, but damn. It was a surprise for the kid on her Spring Break.

Just got the email for the county school system. Spring break is next week . . . and they are keeping the schools shuttered the following week and will "evaluate". Said students should be prepared for remote learning. That would be easy enough to do, but for people not used to that method it can be a hard manner of delivery. I could see teachers not being all that into it and finding themselves giving tremendous leeway to students for tests and assignments.

I could see the impact for parents of younger kids who depend on school for "daycare". They'll just have to figure something out--which is easier said than done. But hell . . . I'm from the latchkey kid generation. I was coming home from school and managing myself til mom & dad got home since the 4th grade.
