How much do nurses make these days? Worth the risk/long hours/etc? Job satisfaction?

Worst thing you've witnessed/had to do as a nurse?

OP,

If a young 26 year old male has flu like symptoms (fever, runny nose, couch, etc.) should they go to the hospital? should they contact their PCP first and see if it goes away?

What's your timeline on how soon to seek help.

If you do go to the hospital, what happens?

Do you get tested and then go home? Do you wait to get tested and then sit in the hospital waiting for the results?

What are the guidelines and timelines (that you know of) for this procedure?

when you get quarantined do you just sit at home? do they keep you in the hospital? Should i bring my laptop and sit in the hospital?
OPmightbe asleep overnight for some hours yet. We'll see?

Guarantee anybody you talk to will want to know if you have shortness of breathe or difficulty breathing and more details than you're giving OP such as what your fever is and what it's been since it started.

I feel like I'm getting better? The cough still sucks and has me gasping for air but I'm not entirely lethargic like I was.

I honestly doubt I have Corona, though. But I hit all the flags for it so they were required to test since I work with immunocompromised adults. More than likely I got something from my kids being at daycare.
idk if it makes you feel better there’s a chest cold going around kids schools that’s not coronavirus, kids aren’t getting the virus just like they didn’t get sars or mers, my friend with ms in weekly chemo got the cold from her kids and they went to the doctor just a cold, and she gave it to me, super tired, annoying cough, I got a stuffy nose and it lasts a little over a week, but now her and her kids aren’t leaving the house cause she’s scared to get coronavirus:/ hope your ok

OP might have Corona. It's hard to get a bilateral pneumonia, likely a bacterial superinfection on top of a viral one, from an otherwise healthy young guy. If COVID-19 hit you hard and then some more garden variety bacterial pneumonia developed on top, then all the pieces fit. Luckily you are in the hospital, although you said you were getting IV steroids (not IV antibiotics??) and worst case you can be intubated if things get really bad until whatever is happening resolves. Rooting for you.

I recently graduated with my BSN last summer and average pay in Central Texas was about $30/hr......I hear nurses in Houston start off in the 40’s. hours suck as a new grad since most shifts are overnight and it phucks with your sleep/social life but eventually you get your day shifts.

And OP, how likely do you think it is for nurses/docs to get the virus? Do you think it’s inevitable most health care workers will get it now that it’s taking America by storm?

I currently work in private duty nursing so I am stuck with the same homebound patient so I’m not really exposed to nosocomial infections thank goodness. Take care tho.

Within 5-10% of influenza A.

The PNA will continue to cause a cough for 6 months. I'm hoping to home quarantine by Monday

I was working out at home for the last month I'd say. I think it was >2 weeks from symptom onset since I had last been to a gym.

Quarantined in my home. If my fever spikes I have to go to the hospital. So far it's just been low grade.

They tested for strep, pneumonia, bacterial infections and the flu, first. When those came back negative and I let them know my husband just came back from traveling they called the CDC to make sure I could get tested. Because he was in two hotspots and came back home with a cough, I got the test (they don't give them out unless a whole list of stuff is checked off).

No idea what happens if I actually have it.

Yeah, if I do have it, I would compare this to a very long, persistent cold.
The cough is pretty bad. Felt like I broke a rib at one point. The chest pain is the only thing that's not something I've felt in a cold though. Usually it's all in the face and throat when I get a cold. This is ALL the chest.

UPDATE

I've been informed that I am COVID-19 negative. I'm torn on how I feel about it because that means that when I'm scheduled to return to the front lines of emergency medicine again (Friday) I am back to potential exposure after potential exposure and any symptom development will result in another quarantine.

I'm just a basic bacterial PNA bish after all, for better or worse.

Wish me luck back on the front lines my dudes

I'd give you 1 month paid leave, imagine going back and getting sick again 1 week later. I guess at least now you might wear protective gear at all times right?

with returning to the er with bacterial pneumonia im assuming youre past the contagious period of the specific bacterium that you have to protect vulnerable populations from contracting it, or is the staffing shortage with the current state of healthcare requiring you to return to work potentially contagious

On the weed one, I had to quit smoking it entirely (even my carts) because the cough is so bad I'm pretty sure I'd have an aneurysm.

Thank you for your response. Did you stop smoking weed when you got ill with COVID19?
I only smoke one joint a day as it helps me with life stress and general feeling good and being high. Do you recommend I should stop this?

Hope you get well soon!
