De Blasio ended up doing it.

https://nypost.com/2020/03/15/corona...ls-will-close/

New York City’s schools will close Monday and remain shut till at least April 20 — and possibly the rest of the school year, Mayor Bill de Blasio said Sunday.

“To say the least, this is a very troubling moment, a moment where I am just distraught at having to take this action,” said de Blasio, who had been facing a coup from parents and teachers over his refusal to close the schools amid the coronavirus.

“But I became convinced over the course of today that there was no other choice,” de Blasio said — adding that New York City is now up to five dead and 329 confirmed cases of the virus.

“We may have to go out” for the rest of the school year, “we may not have the opportunity to re-open them,” he warned.

Was speaking with some of the local college kids in the area. Baseball season gets cancelled. They're seniors and might lose a semester of eligibility and have no way to pay for college unless they want to take out student loans to finish.

I'd bet that the NCAA comes up with a waiver to get an added year if they want. It's one of those once-in-a-lifetime (we hope) weird things that will probably have a lot of unusual things like that. Maybe a 1 year scholly cap increase or something as well for each athlete that comes back?

Schools, for example, have a minimum seat time for a school year. If there are too many snow days (or whatever) they need to add days to hit the total. I would bet that there will end up being a waiver for all that and the boards of education will just say "count the year as-is with full credit" and move forward.

eh, it'll get taken care of. Colleges that have sports scholarships can handle paying that without a problem and will absolutely do it either because it's 'right' or because they'd never survive the backlash

Also this, everybody is going to be in the same boat, so it's not a competitive advantage situation. Pretty easy to make an exception

Yeah hopefully this is once in a generation or lifetime thing that has little asterisks and "well except for 2020 because reasons" when looking back at stats and historical data for decades to come

That ammo empire order of IMI razorcore, I ordered it Monday, arrived Thursday. I think they ship even faster than SG (and the estimates on the site were shorter) because it's purely whole cases so it's a lot easier to handle that. And Monday was just ever so slightly ahead of the bulk of the curve

O, I was playing around with a 1.5 acog too. Never got to look through one before and I really like it.

Nice crisp reticle with my astigmatism that causes my aimpoint to bloom. The 1.5 zoom is nice because it gives you just a little extra to see things well.

The con is that you get the tube effect like with a scope. Really love red dots with unlimited eye relief and all that.

I think I want to try one of these acogs though. Just need a gun to put it on.

You should try an Accupoint if you liked the 1.5 ACOG look-through. True 1x at bottom, up to 4x, dual illumination tritium and fiber optic, reticle options, etched reticle DGAF about astigmatism

I'd add that Trijicon makes a 1-6 Accupoint as well.

My nephew's birthday this weekend, pizza and cupcakes at the park, and my brother in law was asking me a lot of specific questions about home defense options. He's not anti gun that I know of but has never owned or expressed interest before.

We hunkered down together for Irma and he wasn't armed at that time so take that for what it's worth.

Going to try and drive over to Bass pro with him this week.

Of course, not having a kid's party at the park would do more for them than a gun

Arizona's school closed as of monday (many are on Spring Break this week) until Mar. 27.

We'll be out in the wilderness and unplugged for the first week (we're doing our part for social distancing!). AZ Gov't will determine if schools needs to be closed after the 27th.

Stocked up on ammo. When I picked up the RPR .22, the lgs had 8x 1000rd cases of 9mm for $200+tax. Pretty sure they sold out later that day. Store was busy.
I'm not blessed with riches, but I am rich with blessings.
Thank you, LORD, my God.

I know it's easy to get jaded from this stuff, but keep in mind the fact that a lot of the data we are getting is coming from countries that are *not* the US mainstream media.

All of the models I've seen (from Germany and the US) indicate around 60% of the population is going to get this thing eventually. Globally the CFR is about 3.4% but we shouldn't pretend that is going to translate well across populations.

The most optimistic CFR value I've seen to date is from a study that is currently under peer review, which is set at 1.6%. That would yield a net total loss of a little over 3 million in the US.

If our data looks more like Italy (it probably isn't going to look like South Korea), where we have a 5% CFR, we are looking at almost 10 million dead from the disease alone.

Factor in the number of people who die as a result of hospitals not being able to treat non-COVID patients, I'd be surprised if we make it out of this losing less than 5 million people. This isn't diet flu and the US mainstream media has nothing to do with my opinion on this - I haven't watched US mainstream media since the holidays. On the other hand, I have talked with a number of people in government, NGOs, etc. with backgrounds in microbiology, public health, and epidemiology as well as a bunch of friends in the medical community and consensus is that this could get ugly.
