Which is a good incentive for conservative financial planning during good times, not dumping everything into buybacks to pump the stock price so your options are worth 8 figures.

If there ever was a time to let them fail, it's now. No hurry to get people flying around the world right this second. Use that money to tide over laid off employees until they can be rehired by whoever pops up to meet demand after liquidation.

Why? It’s convenient but it’s a long way from essential. We don’t HAVE to live removed from family/friends. Cargo can continue. Tourism, pah

Airlines will get a bailout just like post 911. Flying is vital to the country, it’s transportation of everything we all need. Cargo is the main thing airlines transport (yes even passenger airlines), people are just icing on the cake. The question is if they do get bailed, Will one time be enough?

I’m just worried about what the future holds. If people are scared of the virus, they won’t be flying, or being in close contact in locations where proximity is small to others. When will life return to normal- will it ever?

Yeah, I’m not the one making the call. Lots of people travel for business so that would get slowed down. I guess if airlines go down, other areas of business will feel the effect. I’m not even talking about tourism, although that’s another sector itself that will get hit.

You claimed air travel was ‘vital’ when it almost always isn’t. It’s a luxury

I support a bailout. If they all go under, who the **** is gonna fly me around when this is all over? Who is gonna transport cargo?
Survival. When the jungle tears itself down and builds itself into something new. Guys like you and me, we end up dead. Doesn’t really mean anything. Or, if we happen to live through it, well that doesn’t mean anything either.

theres only a few entities left that WONT need a bailout, like hospitals, distribution(amazon included), manufacturing, food markets, farmers, online entertainment.

Otherwise almost every single business elsewhere is going to be ****ed. You think Ford and GM are selling vehicles right now? You think people are going to dentists, eye doctors, out patient surgeries, dermatologists, Local governments paying workers but getting no revenue, Stores selling anything except food, Large corporations selling anything but food, the list goes on and on.

Saying any one company needs a bailout right now is wild, once this is all said and done the amount of losses and shutdowns will be astronomical.

Bailing out those companies that spent the last ten years borrowing money and buying back stock ought to be refused to be paid for by the American people by whatever means are necessary. What those firms did was a free market choice -- they ate all of their excess cash flow and then some which was not my decision, nor anyone else's decision: It was their decision and the people of this nation should make clear that turning that decision into our cost will have immediate and serious consequences and, if we are ignored politically, we will draft a document starting with "When in the course of human events...."

We must as Americans make that statement load and clear and we must mean it.

Enough *******!

If the government bails out another industry, I don't care what it is, rather than handing out checks to every US citizen, then people should legitimately be rioting in the streets. If they are going to bail out another industry, then they might as well keep that money and pay for our healthcare. We are either socialist or we aren't. We can't just be socialist when it suits big companies, but "capitalist" when it comes to helping individuals.

Yeah let's pay the arsonist to put out the fire. That's why the airlines are in this mess in the first place.

Thanks for answering my question. Every sector is hurting right now and to try and blame those "evil execs" for this is just ignorant. Airlines were healthy before this, tell me which public or private sectors were adequately prepared for a virus pandemic..?

My sector is fine. Plenty are

I’m ambivalent on evil airline execs, I don’t know the details.

But there are industries far more important than the airlines to look after. Air travel is a luxury. Governments have priorities for spending, not a bottomless pit of money

i like how they compare FCF instead of Net Profit. But, nevertheless, if they saved every single penny from those buybacks from the last decade, it would be barely enough to save a single airline. So, they didn't really do anything wrong, because there really wans't any benefit to do the opposite. There is no amount of money they could've "saved up" to protect the business. I want to see them fail and get broken up, so the unions also get railroaded and destroyed.

Pro tip: your business isn't healthy if you immediately go bankrupt at the first sign of trouble.
