Wondering why there is favor with 5.56 over 223 ?
Last I remember remember reading up on it was 5.56 had better velocity I believe?

Most AR rifles these days have 5.56 or .223 Wylde Chambers which will shoot both 5.56 NATO and .223 loads. It is extraordinarily unusual to find a rifle in current production chambered for .223 Remington and unable to accept a 5.56 load.

5.56x45 is almost identical to .223 Remington. A 5.56x45 chamber will fire .223 Remington perfectly. 5.56x45 has a slightly higher max pressure and is capable of slightly higher velocity than .223 Rem all else equal.
A .223 Wylde chamber can also shoot both.
Unless you know damn well what you are doing and why, don't buy something chambered for ".223 Rem"

I've given up lol
Can't find a Mossberg 500 tactical or Remington 870 tactical anywhere. Everything seems to be sold out as of now.
I'm just curious how long it will be before they will be back in stock.
Wish my dumb ass would have been a little earlier on this.

Op I recently moved out to the country, never owned a gun before. I feel like I should have something on hand in case I need to put down an animal, shoot some targets with my wife, or obviously defend against some type of lunatic. Would you recommend something like what's in your op for a first time owner, or something else?

This is fantastic ammo that is $12 flat rate no matter how much you buy and comes in right at 50 CPR for 69 gr match ammo (match ammo in an AR is good for shooting 2-legged predators):https://globalordnance.com/aob-223-r...53001865-bogo/

Your wife will be able to shoot it comfortably, and the learning curve on the gun is very slight. I'm trying to keep the thread constantly updated but it's difficult with things coming in and out of stock. The rifle in the OP is a fantastic option for what you're looking for. You can go on that website and search for "8514" and get an 18" version, which will be a little bit longer, making it less optimal for indoors.

Just wanna say thanks for making these threads whenever there is an event that warrants it.
Now on a side note, what are your opinions on the Sig MPX specifically the 8.5in barrel SBR mpx?
Also have you ever shot one of thesehttps://innovativearms.com/portfolio/iasw-integral/

I have never shot an IASW, although I have an 8" CMMG 22LR AR that runs S&W 15-22 mags that I built for my daughter. It's a lot of fun, and would probably be more fun suppressed.

Just spent some time looking for deals, right now this the best one I've got:https://grabagun.com/ruger-ar-556-mp...k-18-30rd.html
16" ARs with something resembling the features of the OP have basically evaporated. If you're looking for a 16" AR, you're better off going for a premium one because the pricing on those hasn't shifted yet. Most of those are around $1400-1800.
