So you want to buy an AR, Corona Virus Edition

As the board's leftists are telling us that society is about to implode, in addition to toilet paper and hand sanitizer, it's probably time to get yourself a WuPocalypse defense rifle.

Fortunately, we're living in a golden age of AR 15 availability:

My dad bought Ruger's economy AR a few years back.
It was a total POS and literally fell apart after 3 mags. Hopefully they're different now. When it comes to an AR, I'd spend more for Spikes, etc...

This one comes with their better trigger and nicer furniture. Any PSA you get will have **** A2 furniture and a garbage trigger. This is the equivalent PSA that you will be paying tax and shipping in addition to the $500 tag. Bone stock:https://palmettostatearmory.com/psa-...ail-black.html

They seem to have figured things out with their MPR line. Got rid of dumb proprietary handguards/gas blocks/etc.

You can spend more for a rifle and it will have better fit/finish but it also isn't an upgraded rifle out of the box. Ruger should've introduced this 3 years ago...

Worse barrel, worse gas system, non-floated guard, trash stock/trigger/grip...

Literally nothing better about the M&Poverty Sport II.

DD, Colt, LMT, LWRC, LaRue, BCM, SOLGW, Geissele, and Noveske all absolutely make a better AR, it will just cost significantly more.

I'm personally also a big fan of Aero Precision, but the deal on this is too good.

I went out and bought my first pistol last week. Glad I did. With recent news I'm already thinking of increasing my preparedness, but I'm a cheap-ass. Would an entry level shotgun be sufficient? Idea also would be could be used for hunting if SHTF.

When I was out at my local shop last week the picking-over had already begun as far as cheap 9mm was concerned. Ordered some online and much of the lower cost boxes were out of stock. I'd say get what you can get now.

Those saying PSA or some such rifle is better for the price need to sit down. The rifle in the OP is recommended specifically because for the features, it is a good buy (you'll notice he didn't link a complete BCM or something that is nearly twice the price).

I've seen a lot of opinions that mid length is better than carbine length on a 16" barrel AR. What makes mid length better than carbine and does the caliber play into this at all?

A shotgun will work, but is more limited than the AR against 2 legged predators

Mid length allows aslightlylonger dwell time andslightlysofter recoil impulse. Also a little slower bcg velocity and less port pressure on mid-length.

That ruger is a nice deal for what it comes with, good find. I like the 1:8 twist barrel, those aren't that common. Although I wish they'd have continued the Pic rail instead of leaving that gap.

I went with PSA for my first AR. I have a 16" upper (1:7 twist) with PSA lower, 13.5 inch handguard/rail, Magpul MBUS sights, Magpul stock and grip, LaRue ***-2S (edit - wtf, why is M B T censored?) trigger, and a Holosun HS510c red dot. Currently have a PMAG filled with 75gr TAP T2 in it. I like it a lot, very happy with it

All I require is an ultra reliable, indestructible and highly accurate AR with cheap readily available ammo.

A+ against 2 legged game and simple enough for the wife to handle when unexpectedly awoken in the middle of the night.

A big plus would be something that already comes with an ACOG?/something similar making 100-150 yards no problem. Thx again men.
What's your price range? When you say highly accurate are you talking about? Sub MOA? Do you plan on doing competition shooting?

Caliber always plays a role, as does barrel length. What's important is the amount of barrel after the gas port. The AR was designed around a 20" barrel with a 12" gas tube.

Carbine gas was designed for a 10.5" barrel with a 7" tube. Midlength is tuned for a 16" barrel and a 9" tube. It's about the amount of force being applied to the bolt carrier and how hard that force sends it back into the buffer.

Effectively, midlength gas gives a softer/flatter shooting rifle. This is important for faster, more accurate follow up shots.

If you are in a free state and trying to aquire other supplies, an Anderson Lower + a PSA Freedom Rifle Build Kit with an EPT trigger is hard to beat. You can be all in for right around $500. I have thousands of rounds through multiple rifles and no issues. I shoot alot of dirty Wolf Steel cased ammo for what its worth. If you have the coin and want a better build, the Premium Chrome lined barrel kits are an FN made barrel.

If you just want to get the cheapest AR you can just get a completed lower and completed upper from PSA. I just did the math and a 10.5 AR pistol in 5.56 you will pay 370.00 before shipping, tax and transfer. If you wait for freedom week or another of their sales you can finish one up for around 300

I have thousands of rounds through multiple rifles and no issues. I shoot alot of dirty Wolf Steel cased ammo for what its worth. If you have the coin and want a better build, the Premium Chrome lined barrel kits are an FN made barrel.
I wouldn't spend $500 for a PSA freedom rifle. Those have had tons of qc issues, not to mention how much better the trigger is on the Ruger...

What part of "Shall Not Be Infringed" are you having trouble with?

I just checked the prices on some and you're right. TBH the only magnified optics I have are old school type vortex scopes on my hunting rifles. I just use 1x on my ARs. Magnified red dots and prisms are higher than giraffe pus. At that price point you aren't far away from bottom end thermal scopes
