My aunt is dead. My uncle will likely die soon. #ItsJustAFlu bro.

Both have/had morbidity's. She had lung cancer and was likely going to die soon, but given our family history my uncle (diabetic) probably had ~15 years left.

The hospitals are full and will not take him so he is at home sick and delirious and we don't have much hope for him pulling through.

Tell me more about how hes old so it doesn't matter. Stay home you fuking ****s.

As an update: My uncle is now in an ICU on a ventilator. He also apparently has not eaten in 3 days because of this.
Barring a miracle he's going to die. His daughter is never going to be able to talk to him ever again. When the number of deaths goes up in Michigan tomorrow my aunt is going to be one of those numbers.
Sometime in the next week or so my uncle is going to be one of them.

Take a look at those numbers again and keep in mind that every single one of those deaths is someones father/mother/uncle/aunt/brother/sister. Many of them would've lived many many more years. Their lives matter.
They are just another boomer. They are human beings are their lives have meaning. They aren't all old people either. Young people have died as well. Young people with perfectly manageable conditions who had their entire lives ahead of them are dead and sitting in a freezer truck as I type this. This is real.

We’re getting hit hard in the Metro area, and people aren’t taking it seriously at all. As a matter of fact people seem to be more concerned about the 5G installation than anything. I’m sorry for your loss and hope your uncle gets better.

I have no idea. I'm not really involved in those kind of decisions. The generation above me in the family is handling it and I don't really have any expertise to offer them.

Guess those decades don't fuking matter if you are already old. 'Cause fuk letting them meet their grandchildren/great grand children. I knew my great grandmother. I'd like my children to know theirs.

COVID-19 killed her. She was going to die soon anyway, but she would've lived another 6 months without this virus.
My uncle is currently infected with COVID-19 and will likely die from it, and likely would've lived another 15 years otherwise.

That time matters.

I don't blame people for living their lives before they knew about this. I thought this was gonna be like 2009 at first. But I kept an eye on it and pretty soon I realized it was different. Remember those clips of the Chinese welding people into homes to stop the spread of Swine Flu? Me neither. Thats about when I realized this was the real deal.

My aunt did. My uncle is a -part of the service that isn't a priest- for the Greek Orthodox Church. The Church leadership in the USA decided to let the individual heads of Churches decide whether to close or not. The Church my father attends (I'm protestant myself.) closed, the one my uncle attends did not.

I'm very very unhappy with that Church's decision. And frankly with Orthodox leadership for allowing this to happen. The "our faith will protect us" is NOT Church doctrine, and I cannot believe they are allowing it to happen. It's truly upsetting and saddening.

No just until the medical systems can cope with the immense influx of cases requiring ICU support so there immune systems can beat it. Or until there’s a decent drug regimen that can improve prospects. Unfortunately at the moment there’s nothing

Empty hospitals how? The halls and waiting rooms are empty because hospitals aren't letting people in. The beds are not empty. The beds weren't empty 2 months ago.

Chloroquine*(Plaquenil) is an antimalarial used to treat Malaria and sometimes Rheumatoid arthritis, it has zero effect on known viruses including Covid.

Please don't correct people if you don't know what you are talking about either. Theres no high quality study saying whether Chloroquine works or not. Thats why it's currently being studied, and why it is currently available via compassionate use.

"Chloroquine is a clinically approved drug effective against malaria, and it is known to elicit antiviral effects against several viruses, including human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (23, 26, 28), hepatitis B virus (18), and herpes simplex virus type 1 (27). Savarino and colleagues hypothesized that chloroquine might be of some use for the clinical management of SARS (25)."
https://aac.asm.org/content/53/8/3416

I'm not saying it works, but it's too soon to say that it does not. Michigan Medicine has been using Chloroquine since their very first COVID-19 patient (I personally know a pharmacist student involved in that mans treatment)
