I've not read the books but seen both movies and subscribed on yt. He's been putting out a few videos a week now and he lives in montana so the backdrop is beautiful.

Interesting topic for sure. I always try to follow missing cases when they occur.

This was the latest one I saw in the smokies.

I'm not sure if he researched this case but the GSMNP is only like 2 hours from my home so I kept up with it. 175 person search party with k9s. Found 2 miles off trail after a week search.

Anyone know of any audiobooks with similar premises? Unsolved or strange but true mysteries? I don't read a ton, but I listen to audiobooks all the time on my work commute. I'm probably gonna download Hunt for the Skinwalker to listen to.

I tent camp solo in the woods. Sometimes I find a comfortable spot and sleep 9 hours straight relaxed. Other times it's a little too remote and I am just freaked out all night long. If a serial killer wants to get away with some chit, that would be the place.....

I’ll say two things on the topic.

1. People just don’t understand how mind blowing it cast some forests are. The pics I’ve posted of my ranch property has several small (relatively speaking) heavily wooded areas and even as familiar with them as I am I get lost from time to time. Some of these places mentioned one could walk for weeks and never come close to getting out of.

2. There’s definitely things in these areas we don’t know about. Idk what they are and I’m not going to speculate but there are creatures/beings in large heavily wooded areas that have yet to be documented. Once again I have no solid proof of this but have lost cattle and seen/heard unexplainable things that lead me to believe this.

Same. I know statistically you're probably safer the more remote you are but when it gets dark and you're alone sometimes it's hard to shake that uneasy feeling. Every branch snapping sounds like someone walking towards you.

OP clearly isn’t an outdoorsmen. The woods are filled with danger just like under your bed is. 99% of these deaths are from people getting lost and dying from the elements. The woods are VAST and very easy to get lost and never found

Guy, the Great Smokey Mountain NP is 522,426 acres. That's a full 2% of the entire state of Tennessee. There are places that are 10+ miles from a road, parking lot, civilization, etc... That is way more than enough space to fall into a ravine, down a hillside, or whatever else, break an ankle and die of exposure.

There's nothing mystical about people getting lost and dying 10 miles away from civilization. That distance would take you 3 hours to walk in perfect conditions on a flat trail knowing where you're going. Without knowing where you're going, having a flat trail, or good conditions it is likely a death sentence for many. It happens all the time.

Yep. Live near Appalachia and from time to time people disappear on hiking trips. Go there frequently and it can be very easy to get lost and disoriented. You’re so remote that finding someone can become extremely difficult especially after animals get involved



For that kid OP referenced it 90% most likely was just a kid getting lost, or falling somewhere and getting lost. Crime does happen in those woods but don’t let your imagination create dangers that aren’t as real as the actual ones. Dehydration, food, warmth, getting lost, tripping and injury, animals, etc

I'm not saying it's impossible. But bear attacks in the smokies are extremely rare. And there are no wolves in the smokies unless there's a couple still remaining that haven't been seen in years.

And I know how big the smokies is I used to hike it all the time. On a remote trail you would be in trouble if injured.

Attacks, sure, but I'd wager the remains of someone getting lost and dying of exposure being picked over by all types of animals is exceedingly common. Doesn't take long for coyotes, bears, boars, and a myriad of small animals to wreck a corpse and spread it all over the place, which when combined with vast wilderness will make finding it very difficult.
