Actually I am glad they are doing this.
In a few weeks, this experiment will give us a good idea of what will happen if the rest of the country opens up. Essentially they are the guinea pigs to see if things will get as bad as experts say they will if we get back to normal lives and its important af because i don't think the economy can handle the quarantine for much longer.

Virus’s spread much more easily indoors where the humidity is low, little to no air flow
The beach is the opposite environment, tons of air flow, humidity, sun, etc

Definitely a spin coming from that reporter.
Just for reference, Sweden has 156 deaths per million people and Norway has 32.
Should put things into perspective.

Most of these Floridians and protesters won't die but if the infection rate surges after they ignore social distancing then I wouldn't be surprised if other governments use them as an excuse to keep the lockdown going even longer.
Hopefully it doesn't backfire and we can go back to when clean air, walks and sunlight are a good thing sooner.

Actually, flu deaths this year are well below what they were last year because many flu deaths are being attributed to Covid-19 instead. this is inflating the coronavirus death rate. ****ery is afoot here.
If the numbers are in fact representative, though, how can this relatively low fatality rate be reconciled with the catastrophes that have unfolded around the world? How can a disease that's only slightly more deadly than the flu have caused China to shut down its economy for two months, brought the country's largest city to the brink of collapse, and kept 1.5 billion children out of school?
It turns out, that's definitely possible, because before late last year, no one on Earth had been exposed to this virus, so everyone could catch it. By contrast, many people will be immune to viruses that have circulated before, and only a fraction of the population is susceptible to catching those. Even if the novel coronavirus virus is not that deadly, it could kill many more people than a known, but similarly deadly bug simply because it has the potential to infect a greater proportion of the population. That can easily overwhelm the health care system, Schaffner said.
The flip side of this data is that nowhere in the U.S. is likely to have most of its population exposed to SARS-CoV-2 at this point, Schaffner told Live Science. So the idea of us being close to "herd immunity" — when enough people have gotten the virus and are immune that the disease can no longer spread — is wishful thinking.

Covid is serious, anyone who thinks otherwise is crazy. At the same time staying home forever and shutting down the country to the point the economy wont recover is just as bad. People are damn near homeless due to this. This virus is here and is not going anywhere. People will get sick and die from it just like any other virus/disease that has existed for centuries. People back then did not ldar. They worked, took the precautions until something was discovered.
If you are worried about getting sick. You stay your ass home and deal with your employment/family situation. Run out your savings, get unemployment, if your job can let you telework from home then express your concern to them and see if they will let you. Otherwise get your essentials and go home like you have been doing for the past few weeks.
This state we are in isn't sustainable. Keep this up and people will start taking that risk with going back into public.

Coronavirus in Sweden: 'It's a myth that life is going on as normal,' says Swedish government
"Rather than saying 'you need to stay at home, you're not allowed to do that and that' we are trying to explain to the population why this should be done, the reason for it and also the rationale for doing certain things," he added.
So far, Sweden has banned gatherings larger than 50 people, closed high-schools and universities, and urged those over 70, or otherwise at greater risk from the virus, to self-isolate.
Sweden's foreign minister, Ann Linde, who spoke alongside Carlson at Friday's briefing in Stockholm, said the idea that life goes on as normal in Sweden is "a myth".
"Many people stay at home and have stopped travelling. Many businesses are collapsing. Unemployment is expected to rise dramatically," Linde said.
She argued that "Sweden shares the same goals regarding the COVID-19 outbreak as all other countries: to save lives and protect public health. We work with the same challenges as other countries - the scale and speed of the virus, the pressure on the national health system - and we use the same tools as most countries do."
Also
More than half of Swedish households are single-person, making social distancing easier to carry out. More people work from home than anywhere else in Europe, and everyone has access to fast Internet, which helps large chunks of the workforce stay productive away from the office.

lol @ news outlets posting a whole bunch of fake news pictures knowing sheep will automatically put those two together, excellent propaganda
Florida closed major parks/beaches 1-2 weeks later than many other states. Still waiting on that huge spike and the state being overrun by corona and that point of no return people have promised would happen if they didn't close early enough.

The people who think going to the beach for a walk being stupid are worse than the ones denying any significant thrreat of this virus
Morons on both sides, like everything else
This virus is spread with close, group contact inside venues. Bars, movies, sports complexes, theaters. Going outside is probably the best thing short of true quarantine.
