Am going to bump up to around 350g-400g per day after years of keeping it quite low. 75-150.

Really curious how I'm gonna go. Looking forward to some skin tearing pumps hnnng.

Seriously, I was a gassy bitch before. Farts like a sewage treatment plant. Farts that would turn all the plants in and around my house yellow. Now, no more gas at all. Like never. Super regular bowels. One large turd every morning at 6:30 like clockwork.

I think there's something to be said about north american wheat and GMOs and all that schit. Anyone here have a similar experience?

Even as I type this the poo is groundhogging. BRB
Carb source is often overlooked. I cut fat fastest on no carbs , but it's no way to live. Recently on lockdown I tried a new approach.

I get just as good or better from just cutting out all processed carbs 5 days a week (2 days normal eating, not binge). So you get to enjoy a bit of fruit or use chick peas, kidney beans to fill out a salad, have corn etc. I even have the odd roast with potato & pumpkin or sweet potato (maybe 1 a week)

But the effect is just like I cut out all carbs really on weight loss/lack of bloat. I'm doing way less activity & workouts aren't as good given the situation but can still shred up.

One issue is when I DO eat a lot of carbs I tend to gradually get lazy & just bring in more & more white bread & pasta etc that are tasty but tend to make you overeat. I've seen plenty of studies where carb heavy foods are over-eaten vs other offerings/calorie mixes so it's probably more a lack of satiety/restraint thing on some level.

Carbs are not bad. Carbs are in-fact life.

Here are two important tips.

1.) It takes energy to make energy, so if you're relying on carbs alone, the volume is divided by itself.

Your body will go into catabolic state, where it burns off your glycogen stores, then panics to replace them immediately. And begins a super wasteful process of breaking down protein structures, to convert aminos into carbs, to convert carbs into glycogen, while burning the new glycogen for desperate energy, and wasting tons of other metabolites in the entire process. So it's not recommended to try and rely on protein and carbs alone. Make sure you get plenty of fats, and since the body needs carbs to burn fat for energy, make sure you're consuming twice and many carbs to burn the fat (this consumption can be divided and split across the time-frame of your activity).

2.) It's not the volume carbs you take in, but the balance between sugar and starch that decides insulin spike.

If you take in lots of starch, keep your simple sugars low. Insulin spike will drain all the carbs from your blood plasma, from which your body runs out of insulin, and has to wait on an immense latency of the body being able to squeeze more out. It's bad news. Meanwhile, you will go into the catabolic effect described above, because the body can't utilize any carbs. It may prematurely convert them and store them as fat. If you're active, then you can consume almost any amount of sugar, in any combination. While you're active, you're basically invincible. However, realize that there is still a metabolic overhead in having to separate cane sugar from its two parts. It can use the glucose portion right away, but the body has to metabolize the fructose portion excessively before it can be used. There's another latency and wasteful expensure in this so that it's a less-than-fortunate downhill spiral. And that's why basic cane sugar can be bad for you to try and rely on. It's aesthetic—and needs to be utilized as such.

such.
It takes roughly 90 mins of activity to burn through all your glycogen stores though. And whatever amount you use can be replenished by eating more carbs.

Pls respond.

I feel terrible when I consume any type of high- moderate carbs. My digestion is worse, my IBS usually flares up and my energy is so up and down. Nothing wrong with carbs and of course they are extremely important for energy and muscle building but some people's body just don't tolerate them well. Carnivore made me feel great but I hated being so restricted so I switched to keto and I feel about as good but my digestion is definitely still adjusting.

If I could eat carbs at will I would but I'd rather not be bloated, pooping 10 times a day, and tired all the time.

ok, so you know the '1st law' of thermodynamics right. you state if you eat 1kg, you must be 1kg heavier right?

tell me you still weight 1kg heavier the next day.

oh wait.

your measurement is pure cope. body doesn't know what a calorie is.

It works great for some people, especially those with some issues such as auto-immune problems, because carnivore diet is the ultimate elimination diet, whatever is causing your issues is taken out, so...

You should try it. It’s the only way to know.

If you will try a low carb or no carb approach make sure you take in electrolytes and lower your carbs slowly, or you might get teh Keto flu (electrolyte loss making you feel not very good for a while)

Carbs are not in an of themself bad, but different people tend to react differently to certain types of carbs. The demonization originated from the Dr Adkins diet and his claim that they made you fat and bloated.
Let's be real, every real athlete knows that you need them to perform or you will "bonk", crash, or be gassed with out the proper balance. SO if you are doing a photoshoot well then yeah I get it but for the other 99 percent of your life, eat them for fuel.

I had tried keto years ago. I had fulked pretty badly since I was new to lifting and wasn't really aware of my metabolism limitations and all. I think I dropped 40 pounds on keto, but did not like it very well. Besides doing a meat only or a PSMF type diet, I believe I've tried it all.

Having said that, I think what's worked best for me personally, particularly while cutting, was to follow a reverse pyramid lifting routine, while abiding by this dietary lifestyle: more carbs, less fats on training days. less carbs, more fats on rest days. Kind of like a carb cycling approach. Some days I'd eat close to 0 carbs for a much steeper caloric deficit. I remember trying out giving myself a weekly 3500 caloric deficit but splitting it unevenly on certain days. For example, the bulk of my weekly carb intake was relegated to my training days, whereas on rest days I could be eating close to no carbs and overall very little calories. Worked like a charm.

Negative. It takes not even 90 seconds.

When I get up on my bike, and hit a heavy intensive sprint, the moment I run out of oxygen, I enter catabolic state where my body (and especially my brain) begins aggressively burning its glycogen stores. Glycogen is not super complex. It burns up quickly. If I have a healthy volume of carbs in my bloodstream, my body can replace the stores easily once I phase back out and catch my breath. Everything's okay then, and I can hit another sprint. But if I go out too late after I last ate, and do this, I will come out of it feeling entirely sapped of all life. It will take roughly 10~15mins to replace the stores from catabolic state, and once the brain gets flooded, I'll feel optimistic again to hit another heavy sprint, but the energy isn't really there and it's not safe to do. It's just an illusory effect.

Case in summary, those stores ain't nearly as militant as you think they are. They burn up instantly, as soon as your oxygen stores burn out (just the same as creatine). The body can't wait for energy, so it taps into emergency stores immediately. No oxygen, then it's right into anaerobic respiration. Those stores are immediately tapped into.

You idiots need to stop overthinking this garbage. All that fukking matters is:

1) Total calories, depending on your goals
2) Protein intake, should be at the optimal level for MPS
3) Micronutrients/fibre

Everything else is fukkin irrelevant. You can get shredded on both low carb, and low fat diets, as well as a on balance of both (the latter just being the easiest and best). Actually low fat diets are supposedly marginally better for nutrient partitioning since fats are more readily stored as adipose than carbs, but it's completely negligible and not even worth thinking about (unless you got Celiac or some ****).

People are so carbphobic. No one believes me when I explain I lost almost 20 pounds this year still eating 250+ grams of carbs a day. I have so much more energy to train intensely when I eat carbs--I'm now maintaining my weight eating like 350g/day and feel amazing. I recover better and have better mental clarity and way less fatigue. It's almost like glycogen is a real thing.

Insulin sensitivity (other health problems aside, of course... IBS, real gluten issues, allergies, etc) rules it all.

IS depends on leaness and activity, yes, but it's in great part genetics too. Some fat ass may have better IS than some 10% bf workout 6 day a week bro. Tons of diabetic or pre diabetic average weight and fairly active people.
And age, as with everything else with the body, tends to make it worse. So 600g of carbs at 20 may not get the same response at 40, 50 or 60, even for healthy people.

Carbs (and all else) are highly individual.

I do agree that those that are Insulin sensitive should take advantage of that. With sense of course, as always.

I see a lot of broscience posted here and also a lot of neglection about portion control.
My issue with carbs (and I've seen this numerous times when taking nutritional assessments) is how easy it is to go overboard with them.
Here are some of the dumbest things i hear:

"But a carb is a carb bro, it doesn't matter, because they follow the same path from glycolysis to pyruvate bro"
Yes, sounds very scientific but is a totally useless argument because all this argument does is promote people to neglect the different micro- and macronutrients that accompany the carbohydrate source.

"Carbs are GOAT, everyone needs carbs, they're essential bro"
TBH carbohydrates are the only macronutrient that isn't essential. So if someone would want to restrict any of the 3 macronutrients during a diet carbs make the most sense to restrict. A lot of people restrict fat but that's because western food intake is so terrible that 0.5g/lb fats is already seen as a restriction to many.

"Keto sucks, don't do it, it's useless, ..."
Let me tell you a funny fact, never ever have I had a patient/ client that did keto and did not lose weight.
This is scientifically irrelevant but my experience still tells me it is the best way to lose weight.
You have different forms of keto but I'm talking about the clinical keto diet (0-50g of carbs).
Getting 1000 kcals with no carbs is not an easy thing to do (especially not if you have a clean diet)
The only issue is the drop-out rate with these kind of restriction diets, because it's so high you will have a lot of haters because a big percentage of them can't do it.

Also we are not average people (well, most miscers are) but I'm talking about you who lift seriously and are bigger/ leaner so you have a higher BMR, we have more room to play with.
There are multiple people (older (wo)men, hypo/ hyperthyroidism, amputees, ...) that have a daily caloric/ energy expenditure of around 1000 calories.
If these people are overweight (yes it's still possible) and still have trouble with appetite carbohydrate restriction will offer a solution.

Me personally; I prefer low carb.
I don't see why anyone would need over ≃1.5/lb carbs unless it's for endurance/ performance or gaining muscle/ weight.
The emphasis I miss in a lot of these posts is on the product that delivers you the carbohydrates.
If you get your carbs from greens, fruits, (moderate) wholewheat products and beans 200g/ day will put you way over the daily requirements for fibre. And let's be honest, that's mostly what "good" carbohydrate sources are popularized for.

This was my exact experience.

Used to have stomach pain from all the gas. Haven’t felt that way in years.

BRB

why rice? its not bad but its low in fiber and micro nutrients. bread, oatmeal and popcorn are all better than rice, due to having more fiber. more fiber = more filling, less likely to binge and more evenly distributed blood sugar levels.also fruits are better sources than veggies, simply because they have more sugar.

Insulin "spikes" are much ado about nothing. In the end of the day, like all fat metabolism issues, it's the net positive/negative area under the curve over a 24-hour period that is most significant.

Leanest I’ve got is sub 50g carbs. I retain water like mad in general though, when I carb up.

Psmf with low carbs gets me lean really quick.
