We are not heroes. Not even close. Our work is noble, but not heroic. Feel free to tell any of my self-back-patting colleagues that they aren't heroes. But I'll also take the free krispy kreme donuts
I would easily defer to law enforcement, people that face the reality of deadly force/violence routinely, heroic. At times, anyway.
As far as not having proper PPE -- that sucks, but it doesn't make me heroic. Far from it. At best it makes me noble for deciding to be slightly under prepared for a slightly higher contagious flu. It's therightwork to do.
ER RN's are the closest to what would be heroic -- any other type of RN is just being a self congratulating shill. Come at me.
I've held dead children in my arms dozens of times. Done CPR. Provided them rescue breaths, IV's, IO's, and broke the news to parents when they didn't make it. There's nothing heroic about that. If anything it's heart breaking and masochistic.
Working during a well controlled pandemic that isn't even something like ebola (super deadly) is par for the course. I'm ashamed of my colleagues and even a bit ashamed to call myself an RN at this time

This is what the frontline of a war zone or world war 2 like era look like:
In reality, the hospital is mostly filled with a bunch of SJW feminist and *******s who have no work to do and when they do get one of the few seriously sick COVID-19 patients, they end up killing that patient due to mistreatment of the sickness. Anyone have see these gay tiktok videos on instagram know the dumb chit going on with these nurses on tiktok.

I dunno about all this, but chefs work ludicrous hours. 16+ hour days. Hell, I have a friend who has worked liked 22 days in a row multiple times. I never see my chef friends whining for sympathy on ********, male or female.
The miscers who brought up the construction workers and teacher made very good points.

Nursing is a field that females with below average intelligence can enter and make $70k per year. It’s pretty much the highest aspiration for girls who originally come from lower middle class or middle class backgrounds and are not gifted in any way.

You must not know many nurses. If there's a conversation they can't find a way to sneak something about how hard nursing school is into, I haven't heard it. I've seen the work, got curious a few times. It's not difficult in the least.
I've even heard complaints of things like the 'tough' grading scale where it takes a 92 to get an A (which is pretty standard everywhere except high school) or that attendance isn't part of the grade (lol).
They want attention and think they're special. They're not, its a job that requires an associate's degree.

If I saw one of my coworkers milking this situation (or any, for that matter) I’d smack the piss out of em. I swear on me mum I’d hook em in the gabber.
That said, I don’t understand people who expect adoration for the job they chose. I appreciate when people thank me for what I do, but it’s not like someone forced me into it.
There are jobs out there that are actually more dangerous, but necessary. I don’t see anyone out there buying coffee or sending care packages to loggers.

ok, but they literally did sign up for this. when you become a nurse you sign up to help sick people, even those on their death beds, and yes, even those who are highly contagious.
Ive never once heard a person in the military, who experienced combat and claim they didnt sign up for it.
I truly respect the profession. Soldiers, good teachers, good nurses+surgeons, firefighters, ect ect deserve maximum respect, but im over this. 90% of nurses are not in the high-risk bracket and most hospitals are now way below typical capacity.
i swear people these days simply cant resist trying to get victim points

Will have to disagree about soldiers not being prideful though. A token few have actually engaged an enemy up close, and they usually don’t talk about it (unless of course you are a Navy Seal with a memoir to write) but every finance clerk, cook, truck driver, mechanic, water purification guy, supply clerk, etc boast about being a “combat” veteran despite not being anywhere close to danger, other than being somewhere where they draw hazard pay.
And those nurses have a higher chance of dying than someone in -insert random middle eastern chithole here- as does a bunch of other unassuming professions, like roofers, fishermen, truck drivers, loggers, list goes on and on.
Sorry for the rant but the military does not have a monopoly on dangerous job conditions or sacrifice.

In a profession that’s over 90 percent female, what did you expect?
I’m a physician and my newsfeed also showing a lot of physicians claiming to be heros, although a much much smaller percentage than nurses. The common denominator is female sex.

ITT : Miscers with no jobs have irrational hate for nurses just because their majority women lol. Have fun hating behind a computer screen doing nothing with your life meanwhile nurses are literally risking their lives day in and day out. I have a nursing friend who can't even see her husband (he had kidney transplant last year) since March because of her work.
