Well lets look at it this way. Florida is "shut down" but has everything declared as essential, thus protecting everyone who isn't just loitering.

SRS the term "recreational activities" was declared essential by the governor. The beaches are full, the supermarkets are full. However, most department stores are practicing social distancing.

This is clearly an attempt to keep the economy shut down for what ever reason. Just when people are starting to go back to work and starting to have the economy open up. People will say “well you open the economy 2 days and it spikes already?!” ... no more cases does not equal more deaths. Maybe it does down the road but from this information it does not.

to be honest you guys acted too late so getting rid of the virus might be off the table. So you have to minimise it as you have explained above. but what then are you going to live in this weird world where you cut of the vulnerable from the rest of society until a cure is found?

hmm could actually get everyone to look after their health better so they aren't vulnerable

Its too early to tell what will happen, but the potential consequences could be catastrophic. If the country opens back up and people start dying again in high numbers then all hell will break loose.

Time to start opening up slowly.

The chit isn't going away and there's no vaccine. Staying locked down literally serves no purpose.
Survival. When the jungle tears itself down and builds itself into something new. Guys like you and me, we end up dead. Doesn’t really mean anything. Or, if we happen to live through it, well that doesn’t mean anything either.

I get it. I was on team "herd immunity" too, because as pointed out ITT already we haven't had a vaccine for this type of virus yet (SARS).

OTOH supposedlya third of people recovered from the virus don't have significant antibodies (in some undetectable)and for whatever reasonthe period of immunity post infection is being forecast to be a year or less, maybe 6 months.

On when to reopen "two and a half to 3 months after the peak" is supposed to be a good bet for "burn out".Once whatever metric you trust starts to trend downward you should sit tight for another 10 to 12 weeks.

We haven't seen that solid downward trend yet, just a flattening. This infection/illness lasts for about a month on average. So every time we get something like an "Easter bump" we are extending the prescribed lock down by another month.

When you are right. If Kroger and Home Depot can be open and running on a limited basis with extra precautions there isn't a logical reason that Macy's can't be open too.

Yeah, we old. Not that old yet though- still decent odds if otherwise in good health.

To be honest, if you went the body fat route of assessing this countries health the numbers would probably be worse.

All the skinny fat people in the “normal” range of BMI but really have 20%+ body fat.

Last I checked looking around with a quick eye test there was a lot more of those people than The Rock’s of the world out there.
OT, but quoted for truth.

so you can prove its old people in ill health that are dieing from it? well... thats who its killing here in NZ too...

But because we
A- don't have a country run by an absolute moron we jumped into lockdown right away
B - aren't a bunch of Beta pussies who don't have the discipline to stick to something for 5 weeks

we are nearly out, 3 new infections per day, you guys have what? 30,000 new infections per day? your'e 70x our population... not 1000x, so your'e obv doing something very wrong.

And btw, you should take it serously, the average american is probably one of the weakest individuals on earth, more likely to be obese with a poor immune system and pre existing conditions, so you should take it seriously, maybe thats why your deaths are so high?

But come on, FOURTY FIVE TIMES as high (per capita?)

anyway, will be reporting in on life back to normal with NO corona virus very soon

Legit criticism. When PC goes too far.

Story on "healthy young person with no pre-existing medical conditions died from virus". Pic of someone that is definitely overweight/obese.
