One of those studies was done in Uganda with 182 subjects. 46 of those subjects got HIV during the trial period of 2 years. They were comparing the microbes on those with HIV vs not and found that 4 strains were associated with higher HIV risk.

I highly doubt you'd replicate that sort of infection rate in a first-world country, even in a population of stool pushers.
