if they open things up again now... and every panic kunt goes to the hospital for a fever... the people who really need emergency treatment (related to covid-19 or unrelated) won't get it. probably why so many old people were dying in the beginning cause they don't get treatment fast enough

if anything the mass panic and hysteria is the problem here, media is definitely is not helping with that

i also did go to a doctor's clinic for my injury first... wait was 2 hours to see a doctor, and even then there was a slim chance of seeing one. so i said screw it and went to the hospital after an hour.
Most people when they say we have to open up today aren’t talking about movie theatres and sporting events where people are packed like sardines.

We have to get going in basic stuff. Like restaurants they can place people further. Staff wear masks, disposable table tops and menus, more stringent sanitizing measures.

What they’re doing is literally insane

Sorry but this post is completely wrong, H1N1 does still circulate today, SARS was contained and completely eliminated, MERS is still present in camels and occasionally gets transmitted to humans from camels still. SARS and MERS could be contained because they aren’t even as close to contagious as COVID 19 is.

Because swine flu wasn’t a novel virus, it was just a new strain of H1N1 which is already a well understood virus by science, covid 19 is completley new so developing a vaccine will take longer , although luckily it’s quite similar to SARs which already has some research done on it

Far more contagious but far less deadly on a per infected individual basis.

We should be isolating just the sick and people likely to suffer deadly complications, not literally everyone.

It is also WAY less expensive to fund isolation for at risk demographics and with people still working we could more easily afford it.

100% This.

Maybe it was necessary to isolate everyone for a week or two, just to make sure hospitals weren't overrun (which was a reality at first). Now things have just gotten out of hands. Politicians love the power and love being in the spotlight, and they lack the balls to just open chit back up because they know it will lead to a few deaths and they will be blamed.

No one is talking about this but there are huge parallels here with marijuana.

We spent billions and tossed millions of people in jail in an effort to maintain the lie that fighting weed was worth the cost.

It wasn't and decades after this was obvious we finally started to pull back from such an asinine position.

Agree. People don't like to admit they're wrong (hell, I don't) but sometimes that's what leaders need to do. The problem is historically, it hasn't worked out well for politicians that do that.

honestly i think we should by fine opening things up in may. well at least over here. aside from the ooohh nooo corona virus fear which will take years to dissipate... there's already so many sicknesses contagious... it's just another added to the list. except this one isn't that bad. once it's in the system, your body has already developed the necessary antibodies and it just gets into our cycle.

They don’t even need to admit they were wrong, they could just say yes your efforts to social distance are working and we are going to ease back into opening.

If you are in the group that this virus is dangerous for, then you’re free to hide in your closet as long as you please

We need to open up after we take some time to explain exactly who is at risk and set up a program to keep them home.

Once that is in place there will be very little increased mortality due to opening back up. It wont be 0 but sh!tloads of people die from other things we are totally cool with accepting as a part of life.

funny thing is the risk thing is the same as any other sickness or disease lol. idk why it's like so hyped up. we know people with underlying conditions and older people react much worse to sicknesses than the typical healthy person. and older people are more susceptible to injury and illness. these are not new facts, it's the same thing regarding any other injury, disease, or sickness... it's kind of... i have no idea what's going on with the world man. mass panic

this is what I think too

governments wasted hundreds of millions of dollars on swine flu vaccines that were not needed in the end

I'm not getting vaccinated over this chit, don't trust the gov

Of course, in nature there is generally a big trade off between a virus contagiousness and lethality

There is a difference though.

When you have the flu, you stay home because you usually feel like absolute chit.

When you have COVID-19, you usually feel nothing so you go about your daily life having no idea that you are spreading the virus.

Quite literally, we would be better off if COVID-19 had the same mortality rate BUT also typically made everyone feel like crap if they had it.

that's what i've sorta been saying lol. i've had different sicknesses... i've had pneumonia, bronchitis, asthma, sinus infections, i think they were much worse than covid-19... covid-19 the lifespan is about 10 days. i've had colds and sinus infections lasting twice that with rougher symptoms.

the doctor who i heard from said yeah most people don't even know that they have covid, and if u think u have covid u probably do have covid, but after 10 days it's no longer an issue. he says the only time u should be sort of worried is when you have shortness of breath which is like I think he said 5-10% of people don't remember

The people that die are the ones where the virus takes hold in the lungs. Usually your immune system prevents this from happening but if it does you are at serious risk of your own immune system destroying your lungs as it tries to kill the virus.

This applies to very few people though and most of the people that it does apply to were at risk of dying already or were already terminal with something else.

The tipping point is the real deal. I have read reports that if you go on a vent 86% of the time your next step is the grave.

We need to nail down a drug protocol that stops the autoimmune response so more of the people with preexisting conditions can survive.

Until then we really need to keep the people at risk isolated from the general population because they have no idea that they are carriers.

The recent testing indicating that most that have it do not show symptoms proves that this was not an effective step.

If a vaccine actually happens, it would be an unheard of miracle. Sars was 2002, 18 years later we don't have chit.

Hell, AIDS is way worse, and there's nothing for that yet, either.

too bad they then deleted the tweet lol. imagine trusting WHO over scientists from SK who say there is evidence.

Being asymptomatic is hardly a unique trait. It also happens with flus and colds.

Colds maybe but the flu, no. If the flu was asymptomatic at a rate similar to COVID-19 it would kill 6 figures instead of only 5.

so what I'm hearing is that covid isn't as bad because more people that get it are asymptomatic. Sound like time to open up

No, I am saying that the entire problem with COVID-19 are the people that have it and don't know it, which is the vast majority of people.

If we just open everything up, people susceptible to it are going to die, a lot of them.

We would be way better off educating the public as to who should stay isolated and then let everyone else go back to work. Pay just the at risk people to isolate.

Is the rate similar to COVID-19? Roughly 50% of the people with the flu have classically defined symptoms.

This absolutely crushed COVID-19's rate.

BTW, this isn't even a good thing, it actually sucks. COVID-19 not making you sick is the problem, not a sign that everything is fine.
