Wow. Great thread.

For me it's gotta be Rolling Stones - Wild Horses, but there are so many good ones.

I admit my favorite metal bands from the 80's were Metaliica, Dio, Black Sabbath and a couple more I don't remember... I don't know why I wasn't big on Judas Priest, even though their concert tees held the same HS prestige as Metallica's (well....almost, back then).

I'm rebelling against the 80's right now, and just thought of an excellent rock ballad from the 90's:

"Uninvited" by Alanis Morisette

^What an exquisite "classical" rock masterpiece that was!!

I have recently gotten into Rammstein, especially as a source of workout music. They are still releasing good music. I thought that Wolfmother had promise, but I believe that they have kind of fallen apart.

I grew up primarily in the 90s, so the Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, etc was popular during the time that I was in middle school, lol. It's a shame, but rap was considered the "cool" genre during the high school years. I was raised on 90s country, which is about as GOAT as classic rock, IMO, but it took me going back to the 70s/80s rock to introduce myself to how good music can be. My first introduction to rock was when my friend let me listen to a live Queen album in middle school. Queen is still my undisputed favorite band even though I am a big fan of any type of music that is quality.

Oh my gosh- Queen!! Yeah, my sister used to blast their music for maybe 2-3 hours a day- drove my father insane!! He had to use the broom to bang on the ceiling and get all of us music-fiends to lower all that chit! Our "funhouse" was definitely musical theater on most days!! But he eventually started wearing ear plugs to drown it all out (it was a good solution!!). We couldn't stop!

I liked rap too (in the 90's)... Eminem, Nas, Smif N Wessun, LL Cool J, Missy Elliot, Queen Latifa, Lauryn Hill, Mary J. Blige (she's R&B, I know), etc....So many talented ones!! But I get it- melodies from the 70's and 80's are irreplaceable, and so are voices/talent such as the late great Freddy Mercury! "Bohemian Rhapsody" was just genius! Have you ever tried singing that song from beginning to end?? ELITE vocal gymnastics needed there!

Yeah it's sucked being an oldcel metalhead for a while now. Thinking about paying some shady Wuhan lab techs to create Covid-20 so that it only affects mumble rappers and whoever the **** else in mainstream music.

Re-posting from the 'Listening to' thread - recently went down the rabbit hole of the Japanese rock scene which is apparently owned by chicks. Best is Band Maid, all girl band who wear maid outfits and rock the **** out and aren't just a pop group with a great backup band like BabyMetal (no weeb). They sing in like 85% Japanese and some broken English so it takes getting used to, and some stuff skews too poppy, but damn they have a great sound, especially live.

Live instrumental is crazy:

And staying on topic here are a couple of their ballad types:

Bumping. What do you guys think of Kaleo?

Also I've been listening to a ton of stuff from The Score

Your life will never be a straight path.”
“To not only take risks, but to be open to life. To accept new views and to be open to new opinions. While it may be frightening, it will also be rewarding. Because the chances you take… the people you meet… the people you love…the faith that you have—that’s what’s going to define your life.”
“And when you fall throughout life, fall forward.”

"Fade to Black" by Metallica. One of my favorites growing up. And look how cheery I am now.

There's different versions of this song but this one is one of my favorites from Def Leppard.
