New to the firearms crew. Have a handgun and shotgun, will probably get a rifle that I can hunt with next and then look at an AR lower I can build on after that.

I worked a gun counter for a second job for 6 years. The ATF makes you keep the 4473 for at least 10 years. Most stores keep them forever because they overdo things because you don't want a single employee mistake to mess up the business FFL. Whenever a crime with a gun is committed, and they find the gun but not the criminal, the first thing they do is look up records and if there is one (unless it is an old gun) call the gun store holding the 4473 and get the address and phone number of it to contact the person. It isn't tinfoil hat conspiracy, it is routine detective work nowadays.
