Business owners getting vindictive is beta af. Keep emotions out of it and make smart decisions. There's a middle ground between rolling over for clients and being an azzhole.

That said i lol'd at how savage that fb post is.

yeah i mean i feel for the guy but he approached this really poorly so he probably shouldn't have acted so surprised when he got rebuffed

instead of "i'm hoping to cancel our reservation with a refund" - end of email - maybe try something more like "i understand this is nonrefundable but maybe we could work something out"

acknowledgement of the fact that you're technically in the wrong is generally a good first step to actually getting a resolution you want

As the court of public opinion is showing, it's pretty unthinkable to keep a deposit after the bride dies. Shouldn't be any negotiating, just give the guy his money back and move on.

Way to be professional. His reputation is phukked with that stupid website he created mocking Justin. We all understand the meaning of non-refundable just in case the groom finds out his fiancee has been banging Tyrone up until the day before the wedding. In the event of an unfortunate death...that should be the exception, not the rule. That photographer is done.

As a service provider I always refund clients in the event of something happening even mild. Can't imagine hearing someone's fiance died and just telling them tough chit you'd have to be a real scumbag to do that.

This. Not only is it good practice, you safe yourself the headache even if its something minor. Every 100 or so clients I have, there is one that is full of themself and thinks they can do a better job so I just refund and forget. It's one of the reasons Amazon is so successful, the solid customer service. They realise happy customer is someone who might come back.

i probably would've done just that, but i don't think it's too out of line to give him the difference between the $1800 and whatever he's paying his videographers for the day. his employees have families too yknow? then at least it's just him eating a loss

all the extra BS is wayyyyyyyyyyy over the line from both parties imo. if you want the deposit back pursue it in small claims, don't go blabbing to the internet

considering the videographer is a conman used to disappearing with other people's money, small claims would've done no good.

This, FBI needs to get involved for a fraud investigation.

Agreed until you realize it's money for jam.

$1,800 is cheap for weddings normally it's a fiar bit more and for what? A half-day taking photos and a couple of days chilling at home editing the pics.

Seems like this guy is a legit hustler

Runs a fly by the night wedding photography business. Outsources out the videography to third party contractors. Collects all the money, doesnt pay videographers. Profit = 100%.

Close down business
