Cops are afforded different criminal proceedings because of the nature of their job. They are not thrown in jail for mere suspicion of a crime. If that was the case, every time a cop had to use force as part of his enforcement actions, he’d be in jail for suspicion of battery. It doesn’t work like that and that wouldn’t make sense to have half of our police force jailed as part of routine procedure.

That is why he is not in jail right now, because there is an investigation that has to take place first, regardless of how cut and dry this case seems.

Detention=held without cause but suspicion of a crime only, up to 24 hrs

Remanded=in jail PENDING TRIAL OR SENTENCING, requires a grand jury to indict criminal charges or a jury to show a guilty verdict

Convicted=Jury rendered a guilty verdict, he was sentenced to a prison sentence and will do his time

Agreed like some other people have already said. We can't have a vigilante justice and he should be given due process, even though he murdered someone. If you let a mob riot kill someone, it only promotes it as acceptable and will lead to more issues.

He should have been taken into custody and put into a prison or holding facility to wait out his time. He should also be kept on suicide watch since the entire country essentially wants his head.

There probably wouldn't be a group of people outside his house wanting mob justice if he were currently in prison awaiting trial like he should be.
