he can't sit in jail lol. You have a limited time frame between arresting someone and charging them with a crime. If they're not ready to charge, they can't lock him up indefinitely.

When you charge a cop with a crime like murder, you have to prove they were acting outside their scope of duties.

Yes, if a regular citizen had done this with similar evidence, they would probably be apprehended. The regular citizen is not authorized to take life as part of their job. Since the cop was working, you need to prove more. This takes time, lots of it, especially if you want a good case. Caving to public pressure can easily lead to hung juries down the line, or even the dismissal of charges. Watching the video and being like “yup that’s definitely murder” can be obvious, but that’s not how the justice system works.

Knowing this will go to trial, you want to get all your facts right from the get go and have a solid case to send up. The more facts you list on your arrest warrant, the harder the defense attorney will have getting the charges dismissed (which is normally either plan A or B). You’re setting yourself up for success by taking this time to bullet proof your case now, instead of having a sloppy trial where a good defense attorney will have a field day with everything, leading to a hung jury.
