Same, i'm on one now lol

Only thing that helped was finding love or honey moon phase

Later in life you need that attachment to a woman

You should look into that Special K, you should be a candidate for like $400/session. It's completely legal and recommended for people who have unsuccessfully tried two other treatments. It's on my to do list

I don't think it will work. Drugs are not the answer. Women are unfortunately.

Whatever the answer is, I guarantee it's not women lol. Women are perhaps part of life after the solution is found, but they aren't going to save you.

I'm sorry to hear that.. you must be in some deep depression and so am I. You're right too with the woman part... all I do is think about having one. I want to get better, meet a good woman, and she can help turn my bad life around...... paxil worked for me when I was a teen so maybe it might work now.

Did you feel anything while on those pills? Any improved mood at all? Do you still take one or the depression becomes too debilitating?

Have you ever tried approaching girls you like? Most of the time they are too shy to approach and they expect you to make the first move.

I think it depends on the person. Different people have different reasons or sadness but I understand your point. I know personally a woman cannot save me, as I have been with women in the past that I loved, and I was still depressed as hell
Lots of people who are married or have girlfriends are severely depressed

Most of this thread is 'depression' over girls or social awkwardness. I sympathise.

Any brahs have true clinical depression where you're happy with your life, women, etc but still feel terrible? Been through every antidepressant under the sun, ECT, ******** (that helped), even rTMS (waste of money), as well as exercising every day and still suffering this chit. Started on Nardil (MAOI) about three weeks ago and hoping it's going to help. It's a really powerful depressant but woefully underprescribed because docs fear dietary interactions. Haven't changed my diet one bit and zero problems.

If Nardil doesn't work, I'm done man.

I'm depressed because I'm in an office all day and can't do anything. I'm just a cog in the machine and get used. Nothing ever happens since I'm always at work and not a social chad

I understand bro and I do sympathise. But it's very much a situational depression. The 'good' thing about that is that if you can somehow improve your situation the depression would go away.

Somebody could literally give me $1bn and make me the biggest chad in history and it would not change a single thing.

Anyway good luck man, hope it gets better for you.

Have you tried extended fasting, just to rule out any dietary influences?

Hey man. No, I have read studies that calorie deficits can help in depression. The thing is I have just started a new med and don't want to tamper with too many things while giving that a chance to work.

It's not a bad idea though. I'm sorry, what does it involve? Is it like a complete fast and for how long? Appreciate any info.

One thing at a time is generally advisable. Water fasting is easy, just go for 4-7 days on only water, and supplement electrolytes after day 3 or so. If that makes a significant positive change, you experiment with readding foods one at a time.

I do extended fasts repeatedly, for the purposes of weight loss and dietary readjustment moreso than for health purposes. I dropped over 150 lbs in a matter of months.

It's not easy, but it's not as hard as you would expect. Having to eat every day is more of a culturally reinforced norm than a physiological requirement. The body is designed to go without food for extended periods of time.

I've had this since the 2nd grade.. I'm not sure about happy with life - I go through persistent sadness and I avoid friends and family to be alone.. I still haven't tried anything but medicine yet. I looked up the maoi and I might try that if I cant find an antidepressant. Be sure to update us on that

Edit: are your muscles fine? Mine are extremely weak. I cant even get out of bed. They look like they have no strength. I even have trouble walking down stairs...

Mirin', seriously. Does it get easier once you kind of get used to it?

I used to run 10km every day. Now every day I wake up and my muscles feel like I have run a marathon the day before even though I haven't done any serious exercise. I feel exactly the same as you describe. I don't know if it's a side effect of the meds or the depression or what.

I'm happy with my life circumstances as they are but they way I feel...... every day is a living hell. The only good days I have are when I take Pregabalin. For some reason it really helps with depression and kind of acts like a stimulant for me. But I don't take it every day because I don't want to become physically dependent.

MAOIs these days are almost a last line antidepressant. It's much more likely they would try you on an SSRI or Wellbutrin or something first, which may well help.

I'm sorry you're going through this too bro. It's hell.

your skin pale too? It's the depression I think because I've gone through this issue with my muscles for years before trying a med. Fatigue. Could you describe how you felt after ******** infusions? Were you 100% bettter? What is the remission rate of an MAOI? I read 70% and I'm wondering if you can confirm if that's true.

My first ******** infusion 'cured' me completely. I felt no better immediately after the infusion and assumed it had done nothing. Woke up the next morning completely depression free. ******** has helped me a huge amount but it doesn't seem as effective these days as it once was. But for a lot of people it keeps working. I would highly recommend it.

I think with MAOIs (mainly Phenelzine/Nardil or Parnate/Tranylcypromine). I wouldn't go for Moclobemide. It's a reversible MAOI but not as powerful. I can't really comment on Nardil yet. I have only been on it 3 weeks and have been titrating upwards so have probably not reached the optimal dose yet (will probably be 90mg for me). I have had a couple of days when I felt really good but then I have had some bad days too. The majority of people really feel it after 4 weeks at the right dose. I will update here though. Nardil is also supposed to be great for social anxiety as it works on GABA. I'm not taking it for that though.

It might be hard to get a prescription though. Doctors prefer to prescribe SSRIs, etc because theoretically MAOIs can cause hypertensive crises if you drink red wine or eat tyramine rich foods. The thing is the dietary restrictions are overblown. I haven't changed my diet one bit and had zero problems (but of course you should avoid red wine, aged cheeses, etc).

I have a lot of hope for Nardil. There are many people who didn't respond to any antidepressant and had Nardil or Parnate work for them.

The thing is have you been on antidepressants at all? Sorry you mentioned you have tried medicine, what meds have you been on? These days MAOIs are more likely to be prescribed for treatment resistant depression so you may have to try other things first (which may well work for you - the first antidepressant I was on was an SSRI and it worked like a miracle but after a while it stopped working). Edit: Sorry just saw you tried Wellbutrin. It gave me crazy energy for a few days then I got used to it and it didn't do anything.

Nardil is kind of my last hope. I know people say you have to fight depression and I have for a long, long time. Trying to eat right, exercise a lot, force myself to do things, etc. But the thing is after many years of that you're just exhausted and now I have slipped into a kind of resignation about it all. Like you muscles hurt, have zero energy, getting out of bed is really hard, let alone going running.

Pregabalin helps a huge amount and has allowed me to keep working but like I say you can't really take it every day as tolerance builds quickly (but resets quickly also). You could also try a stimulant like ******** or Dexedrine (I have a prescription). They helped me an enormous amount and give you all the energy and motivation in the world. The problem is these days I get bad crashes and sometimes dysphoria (whereas I used to get euphoria and the crashes were manageable). Clearly my neurochemistry has changed over the years.

There isn't anything left recently if Nardil doesn't work. I signed up for a Psilocybin trial in the UK. Not sure if it will go ahead because of Corona. Plus I'm not sure it will help me because it seems more like something for people who have issues to work through or something? I don't know, I don't have any trauma, had a happy childhood, etc. I just need something that makes me feel normal. I have days when I feel normal and the difference between those and the depressed days is like night and day.

I read the posts on here and I sympathise but I can't really relate too much because almost all the posts center around work, girls or friends, etc. I have never really understood how meds would work for people with those issues because it's not like meds will affect any of that. How are antidepressants possibly going to work when people are 'depressed' because of lack of success with women? I really hate the word 'depression' because it's too all encompassing. For me depression is absolutely a chemical problem. For people like eod8989, that's not clinical depression. Not putting you (eod8989) down or saying it's not real suffering bro but it's very different from being actually ill.

I don't have any of that on my mind. I just want to feel normal but it's impossible. Keep me updated man, I'm interested to see whether you find something that works for you.

Really sorry for the long post, congrats if any of you made it this far.

Thanks for detailing so much about the maois.. yeh I've tried just about every antidepressant in the past. did one of them really put you into remission? I've heard different stories from people on how they work when you find the best one.. some say they lift the depression and others say they make you feel numb. What's the truth? I'm looking forward to hearing on how nardil works out for you. GL

Thanks man. The first time I took an SSRI, it completely lifted the depression and I don't remember it making me feel numb. But I know a lot of people complain about that. That's the only time an antidepressant worked for me though. We're still in the dark ages when it comes to neurochemistry but my theory is that the brain is geared towards homeostasis. For most people that's good as their default state is euthymia but my brain seems to always 'want' to default to severe depression.

I'll keep you updated on Nardil. I know Misc hates Reddit, lol but you can check out the MAOI sub. there's some good information on there. And definitely give the ******** a try if it's financially an option. It really does provide instant relief if your'e a responder. After my infusions I have to sit in a waiting room for at least an hour, with other patients that have had infusions. Most of the people I talk to say that ******** is working for them but there are a small number that don't seem to respond to it.

be careful with antidepressants. zoloft permanently ruined my life with chronic migraines. you can't undo that. would never recommend antidepressants because of that risk of permanent dysfunction. just one pill can permanently change your life negatively. i wish i could undo it. i can't. i can't not have migraines anymore.
There is only one Hell: the one we live in now.

I find that if I cut back on fatty foods (oily stuff, etc.) I have less headaches.

As you get older there's just no way to be happy without love and affection. You just grow cold and want to be alone.

Be careful with that, or with your wording rather. I think it would be more accurate to suggest that the body can go without food for extended periods of time, but it may not be especially healthy or optimal.
