One of the most well filmed movie scenes of all time. Every time you watch it your heart races.
It’s very historically accurate. Not just in terms of the visual and auditory carnage, but also historical fact. A great example is at the end of the d-day scene when the German defenders surrender before they are shot. If you listen closely you can hear them speak another language other than German (I believe it’s Romanian but could be wrong), which is accurate since some of the garrisons on Normandy were actually composed of German conscripts from occupied land and not actual Germans.
It’s those little details that make it so good.

Probably the best battle scene ever filmed. Impossible to watch without getting chills
Been reading a lot into WW1 lately, I feel it's quite an unknown war for most compared to WW2. It's astonishingly mind blowing how brutal that war was.
Look up Dan Carlin on youtube "blueprint for armageddon", it's a fantastic podcast which really put's things into perspective

The airborne force never made it, I think dropped in a flooded area by mistake?
And the shelling didnt do as much damage as expected
But even if I'm way off, I dont believe they just expected to walk into that kind of chitstorm

If there was anyone even close to on par with us in terms of technological prowess/resources and nukes didn't exist - we would get crushed very quickly. There are a lot of countries where the citizenry still has that "die for my country" mindset and they would completely destroy the average cuck mentality the current US fosters.
Watch this clip from the Ken Burns Vietnam doc (on netflix, highly recommend). It's in ALL of us. (Very short vid)

I've seen plenty of real life bravery. None of them were done by soy boys. The soy boys were hiding while the men stepped up and took command, saving lives in the process. The soy boys I served with would abandon their posts as soon as chit hit the fan, maybe man the .50 until it ran out of ammo, but not be brave enough to reload it under fire, they would steal other men's cold weather gear to double up and stay warm on freezing mountainsides.
Then, those same cowards come home, and post for years about how they experienced combat or were heroic in battle.

There were MANY men in ww2 that were simply too scared to do anything. Purposeful trench foot became a huge issue as soldiers would not change socks/boots on purpose to get trench foot and moved to the rear. It's a myth that ww2 soldiers were somehow more heroic and less soyboyish than modern americans.
The only real concern with the current environment is the number of americans that are too fat to be drafted. That's a real national security issue.

Definitely one of the GOAT movies. I don't even think any battle scene tops this opening scene to this day and the film was released in 1998....

It would be different if a country was trying to invade my own, and being all evil and **** raping women killing young men etc, then of course on that scenario you gotta protect your loved ones, you gotta protect your land, however there is no way im going to sprint towards a hundred rifles while i have in the back of my mind "the fuk am i here for im just making some jew bitch rich?"
Still dont get how the US got so many dudes to just die like that especially in WWI and II. Were they super religious or something? Believed there was something else once they died from blood loss after they lose their two legs from a landmine explosion?

You realize the research done by S.L.A. Marshall (which you're citing, whether you realize it or not) was crazy inaccurate right? Variables in statistics is why the number got reported down in Vietnam and the Middle East. This is normally due to the credited "Ivans" in the cold war, but realistically, it's a reporting bias by basing the numbers off total POG troops who didn't even see combat.
Purposely trench foot is nothing old, new, or anything. As someone who has researched World War II combat vs modern Middle Eastern combat as part of a masters program, and as someone who has spoken directly to multiple people involved in WW2 as well as directly experienced combat in the Middle East, you are an idiot.
I welcome any research our scholarly sources suggesting otherwise.

Is there any way to find out more about relatives who served? Both my gramps served, but one refused to talk about it ever. I don't even know what unit he was in, only that he was in Patton's army.

Normandy beach rush is crazy but even more crazy is how the russians treated their own soldiers. Stalin put out a command "no retreat" or something like that.
Brb you had to storm the nazis with almost zero equipment, if you were lucky you got a rifle with a couple of bullets. If you dared to take one step back, you'd get shot by your own people...
