Towards the end of week 7 of the cut. Still no where near "lean" yet, but very happy with where i'm sitting for 210.8 lbs, no pumps here. Based on lift progressions and week to week changes, I definitely think recomp is occuring. Cals are at 2700 through the whole week

For incline pressing be touted as dumb by one miscer (lol), chest is looking decent. Front delts tell me my assertions of high incline pressing being superior to vertical isn't far off either, especially for cranky shoulder brahs. SO happy my shoulder issues are better tho. Pressing 105s on the 60ish degree incline. Might switch back to the 75 degree and see how that feels

Since this is a thread of people who actually lift and don't aim to just look the same year to year, what is your opinions on cut/bulks? Misc seems to have a against it lol.

I'll be the first to say that body comp got away from me a bit at the end of mine, but i really attribute that to covid lockdown and not adjusting food enough for that. That said, i think 8-10 week bulks are a complete waste of time, especially for natties. Definitely needs to be a longer process imo. And if you don't have the mental capacity to not train like a pussy when the cals go away (without supps) then yeah you're pretty much going to be spinning your wheels.

Fuark bro, mirin' that you're cutting on 2700kcal, das fukkin' it.

I want to say that the misc really isn't the bastion of lifting knowledge that it might seem like it should be lol. Most miscers aren't lifters. That being said, I dunno, I've never been fond of the incline chest workouts. I don't think they're dumb, though, I just don't like how the lift feels.

I would agree; 8-10 weeks is way too short for any natural lifter who would like to make real progress. Problematically, lifting has often gone off of the recommendations that IFBB pros make (at least in the mainstream world), and unfortunately, they're the brahs cycling. 8-10 weeks is about the length of the average "enhanced being's" cycle. For natural lifters, I have always recommended that bulks take at least 8-12 months. This may seem long, but truthfully, it is where I have always seen the best gains when I was not enhanced.

I don't believe recomping is as effective as bulking/cutting, and recommend not performing recomps. Mainly because recomps are near impossible to be consistent with:
1) Nutrition labels have a ~20% margin of error
2) Unless you're weighing your foods, eyeballing your portions also has a large margin for error
3) In order to recomp as a natural lifter you'd have to be so meticulous that it would just make much more sense to cut.

Hmm, I don't know if .5g CHO would be enough to cause the pumps. But I feel as though it's gotta have something to do with dietary practices the day prior, and intake the day prior. I sent a spreadsheet to George to see if we can't fuk around and figure out what it could be. If we can track down the source of that I'd be willing to bet it'd be super helpful during his show.

RE: fasted pumps / pumps while cutting.

For me I think it’s not that the pump is actually ‘better’ (meassurement wise) but it can feel that way because it feels like the skin is more “tightly” pumped when depleted.
At least that’s the best I can describe it.

Sounds like we pretty much agree on all that, especially the bold part. I can only assume to get where you are, you spent a bit of time being a little doughy? I think most people carrying a considerable amount of muscle had.

Two of my best bulks were spent in the 240+lb range for extended periods of time, doughy is a kind way of putting it lol

Oooh, this is good perspective. This does seem to be similar to what I would get. I also felt much more fatigued when depleted. The fatigue "pump" was a thing too. Like I was tired on all fibers so I felt them more.

I'm interested in what George finds.

Absolutely, I wasn't saying you wereBut we don't know, I mean, it absolutely could have been a part of it.

I'd agree, brosnbroccoli might have a good perspective on this, and it's possible that it's the tightness/fatigue factor. Tired on all fibers is usually how I feel when depleted. Also being fasted you look leaner, so that could be part of it too.

Alright so day one of morning training is complete. I ate like a mad Viking this weekend, so pump was pretty good. Holding on to water and definitely not as lean as before the weekend, but a lot more full!

Hehe I don’t bulk.

In reality, everyone bulks to a certain degree. I “gain-tain” but that’s still bulking. I’m most likely in a 100-200 calorie surplus for 9 months out of the year

Practicing after lifting was my favorite time to practice posing. The pumps can get crazy.

You're reverse dieting now correct?

How long do you plan to do that?

That's fair. My next bulk certainly will allow me to stay leaner being on "supps" from the start vs just the last 12 weeks like this one haha

There's also differences in goals with you staying weeks away from being stage lean vs just wanting to get furkin yoked and train like a madman lol

Yes I am. I plan on reverse dieting for 2-3 more weeks. The plan is to stop 8 weeks out from the show, at which point I have no idea what to do!

Lol do you think that’s why you were able to gain so much weight and maintain a decent body comp? Just curious because whenever I try to do a bigger surplus on a bulk, I just get fat

I mean training is more on point than its ever been. I went from 175 to 205 from July 2019 to Feb 2020 completely natty first. Body comp stayed fairly consistent from there to 217 except the last few weeks

Taking it slow was key

Gotcha. I was still sort of a noob last time I bulked hard. Training was NOT on point. That’s most likely the reason behind my failed attempts

How many years of lifting did it take you guys to get a fully developed chest? Seems to be an area that is taking forever compared to everything else on my upper body.

Took me 4-5 years for what I considered a decent chest imo. I saw the biggest leaps forward when I ditched flat barbell press. It's anecdotal but I've know a lot of people who have had chit luck with chest development and flat bench. Some, it works great.

I’ve been training seriously for about 4 years but still so far away. What I hate is my chest looks ok at some points if the day and than other parts of day looks like chit. My lower chest is the problem. Upper chest looks decent. I switched from bb to dB at the very beginning. I’ve seen a lot of gains in the 4 years but it’s what’s holding back my upper body. Arms, shoulders and traps are a positive on my build so far.

Most people I've seen that had drastic chest development switched from BB flat to DB Flat/incline.

I maybe flat bench once a month lol.

It took me years, but I stopped flat bench over 20 years ago after tearing a rotator cuff. In my opinion flat bench is one of the worst exercises for injuries.

I stick to incline, decline, cable flyes and heavy dips.
