Any miscers listen to Math Rock?

Been on a math rock kick lately. What other good bands do you guys know? Btw I think a lot of metalhead brahs would like this style of music if you've never heard it before.

Apparently not, I didn't hear any cringy growling or screaming on those tracks.

It's not terrible but reminds me of the pretentious "intelligent" phases of dnb and house etc, but obviously this is way less soulful

I think Rush is more of a prog rock band. But I'm sure they probably inspired a lot of math rock bands. I'd say it still falls under the same general sound.

It's a sub genre of rock that uses odd time signatures. Most of the bands I've listened to are usually driven by busy guitars and drums. I mainly listen to instrumental bands, but there's some good bands with vocals as well. If you prefer music with vocals here's 2 good bands with different styles.

these genres are always super polarizing and it's kinda interesting to me. i think it was a video of someone who studied converge's jane doe, they were saying that the people who listen to these types of genres are people who aren't really in it for musicality and it's more enjoyable as some sort of "problem" you're solving in your head as you listen to it. like you're studying it more than you're listening to it.

I remember having a drunken discussion with one of my buddies in the late 1990's and we tried to figure out what math rock was. He decided Fugazi was math rock. I have no clue what math rock actually is, but Fugazi's cool.

I'm not familiar with The Chariot, I'll have to check them out. DEP is great but I think they're more of a mathcore band. They're a good band shame they disbanded.

Hell yeah man, This Town Needs Guns is actually the first math rock band I heard. Probably still one of the best bands I've heard in the genre to this day.
I haven't really been able to get into Yvette Young or her band Covet. But that song sounds pretty good, I'll have to give their music another spin.

You'd probably like Chon too they're more prog but have some math-style riffs

used to listen to a little hella, mainly because zach hill (drummer) played in team sleep which i really liked. cant say I got very into it. this the only song I remember off the top of my head, havent listen to it in years. still pretty cool imo, might revisit

Yeah that's possible. I've personally noticed that math rock and other similar genres tend to attract a lot of musicians, so I think many are drawn to the technical aspect of what the instruments are doing. Personally I just find it interesting to listen to a genre other than metal that's so guitar and drum oriented. Fast guitars and drums is something that just clicks for me, especially when it's really melodic like a lot of math rock tends to be.

Nice, yeah I think that's probably around the time a lot of mathrock bands started popping up like American Football. I've heard of Fugazi but never got around to listening to them till now. Definitely sounds cool and I'm sure they influenced newer mathrock bands.

Definitely dude, I'm a big fan of their early music too. I feel like those early songs had a bit more energy especially with the extra distortion in their tone. I still like their new stuff but their first demo is GOAT.

I'm familiar with Hella but not too familiar with the drummer. Anyway, that sounds pretty good. It's not quite as chaotic as some of their other songs I've heard, which makes it a bit more enjoyable.

Death Grips is a little different in style, not quite math rock. It's more like a mix of industrial/experimental hip-hop and noise rock.

It has very much so to do with musicians figuring out that simple fractions are hard for them lmao

that being said math metal and rock forms very nice revolving rhythms due to what I'm familiar with as "aliasing." That's what poly rhythms result in.

That being said, 99% of musicians have an issue counting in odd numbers, much less can they consider the effects of time signatures not lining up.
