Damn!! I absolutely detest antifa and all the 'peaceful protestors', but that vid of him choking on his blood was tough to watch. Hopefully, this will show them that their feelings can't cancel bullets and they should just retire back to their basements

I do acknowledge and understand this is a stressful situation for everyone involved. And I subscribe to your thought experiment of comparing it to a different type of protest.
But again, I have to go back to the inherent need for cops to be more composed in stressful situations.
Their jobs demand it. Not only are they trained on the weapons systems and their appropriate use, but also conflict deescalation and other more “human” (for lack of a better term) aspects of conflict.
He doesn’t get get a free pass due to being in a relatively more stressful situation.
I haven’t said this yet, but it is worth saying. If it was an accident, I do feel horrible for the cop. Not only is his standard of living about to significantly decrease, but he has to live with accidentally hurting another person. Simply because he was born human and not God.
I know a lot of you guys disagree, but I cannot celebrate any use of force. Sometimes it is required, and this is just a part of these fields, but that doesn’t mean it should be celebrated. If this was an accident, and this cop is just a guy providing a living for his family while serving his community, then I would like to believe he may experience some emotional pain for accidentally harming another human to such a significant degree.
Based on the concepts I discussed in earlier posts, and after reviewing the video, I do not believe it to be an accident.

the problem that i see with all of this is that there isnt a clear distinction being made between what we consider to be protest and what we consider to be violent rioting. wheres the line? imo when a protester engages law enforcement whether in retaliation or not, they cease to be protesters.

It's led me to believe that the vast, vast majority of people are only intelligent from a booksmart perspective. Hardly anyone out there is calm and collected and without ego.
Politics should be discussed without emotion, without bias, but that never happens.
Ideally political discourse should occur as follows:
Person A presents an argument
Person B must present a counterargument, but ONLY if it is an argument based on logic and reason
If that criteria is met, Person A must counter argue, again ONLY with logic and reason
That process needs to be repeated as long as it needs to until a solution is found.

Naturally, there will always be almost some emotionally charged response to issues some may consider moral/ethical dilemmas. For most, it can be quite hard to entertain other views that are outside of what one's own morality says is "just and fair."
Now, more than ever, emotions have become flared. While it is important to level them appropriately when having a conversation, you have to understand that society has asked most of us to be emotionally charged.
You are correct, however, that we will never begin to have real conversations when we dictate that the party in front of us isevil.

Antifa absolutely should be addressed on every legal and civil platform available. 100%
There is value in examining historical events (rise of the Nazi party and KKK are good examples you brought up). We have the hindsight to better understand those processes, and it is relevant to apply them to this scenario. Where is the line? I 100% support the civil liberties of members of the KKK, despite completely disagreeing with their ideology.
If we do this right, we will never know. If we **** it up (either direction), we will never forget.
The subjective line, is based on our own perceptions and interpretations of present and past events.
The objective line, the one I try to walk as firmly as possible, is the constitution.
The constitution gives the KKK the right to assemble, and discuss their ideology. As the wise Peter Griffin once said, “while I don’t agree with what you are saying, I will defend to the death your right to say it....”. (Moments just prior to succumbing to injuries he received while fighting a chicken, 2005, colorized)
The constitution does not have room for inappropriate government use of force.
It is supposed to protect us against that.
The one line, we should all agree on, is the constitution. It is fair for all American citizens, and is generally easy to understand and apply to different events individual from each other, regardless of personal political beliefs about the events.

It's like this: He got involved with something where there were risks. Took his chances and his chances are up. It's not about if he deserves it or not, but it's the reality of what happens.
IF he were going to or at work this wouldn't have happened.

Two wrongs don't make a right.
Antifa/communism is bad.
Police brutality is bad.
Even anti-freedom people are protected by the first amendment.
Firstly I hope the injured guy becomes a good boi and gives up his antifa ways. If not idgaf if he recovers but he was definetely wronged by the police here.

But assuming shot wasn't point black.
And no idea whether tear gas launchers have smooth bores. But assuming they do.
Regardless, I doubt the things are ever intended to be highly accurate.
I would assume aiming at/near someone and they get hit in the head can hardly be called intentional.

They were not police. They were feds. And they were shooting off tear gas canisters to clear the crowd that has been destroying Portland for 50 straight nights now.
A few seconds before the guy was hit, he threw back another tear gas canister. While standing withing 50 feet of the feds, he was hit by another one.
Now, I am no expert marksman when it comes to shooting, but I know for a 100% fact that shooting a tear gas canister is like shooting a bean bag from a shotgun. You have no idea where specifically is going to go.
So to say the fed was purposely trying to hit the idiot with tear gas from 50 feet away?
Just go away manlet....pack your knives and go.

Looked up the extent of his injuries.
'Desiree LaBella, Donavan’s mother, said he suffered facial and skull fractures. He came out of surgery early Sunday morning and was responding to doctors. He was moving his arms and legs, Desiree LaBella said.
“He was awake enough to give the OK to talk to me,” she said. “He’s had some facial reconstruction surgery. They’re just watching him right now.”'

Their cut me some slack' room for protesting has long since been over.
Have you seen the area they protest at every night? City hall? Justice center etc? Looks like a zombie apocalypse zone.
Screw you and your manlet pandering.

That being said, if this does go to court, and the defense defers to this being accident (which if it was an accident, they absolutely should) the prosecution is going to present all the detailed training records, training methods of instruction and application, they will bring in the department training section administrators, and they will show the likelihood of it it being a chance accident is less likely than it being intentional.

What I’m saying is that when it does happen, it needs to be addressed. Certain fields have little room for the application of discretion when such accidents are made.

I watch this guys channel. He streams multiple steams from multiple streamers every night.
Here is the stream from last night showing 5 or 6 different streamers at once from Portland, including the incident in question.
Bear in mind these 'protestors' have been doing this ever single night for 50 straight nights. EVERY single night. Not one night has this not happened. Look at that multi city block area. Looks like a war zone. THIS IS DOWNTOWN PORTLAND.
They attack the police. Taunt them. Destroy the community. Vandalize. Graffiti everywhere. Stop people from driving on the streets.
The person in question was clearly antagonizing the feds. 10 seconds before kicked a tear gas canister right back at the feds.
Get what deserve.

I agree man, I don’t get these protests at all, I don’t agree with them, but for a cop to take it personal and do that to someone who is clearly not a threat, well, there will be plenty of witnesses at the trial if he isn’t offered/accepts a plea deal.
The video will be there too.

Can you imagine the back-log of misconduct over the last few months? They'll just ignore it and wipe the slate clean, and only deal with the prominent cases that get enough attention.

What drivel, luckily the supreme court ruled in qualified immunity that the actions should not be judged by 20/20 hindsight that you seem to so lazily enjoy but the reasonableness of the officers' actions in the moment.

I hope that commie filth suffered a lot of pain.
I hope that soon, every single one of those, the leftist scum, gets dealt with violently and painfully.
They are evil terrorists who are seeking to destroy out nation. They deserve no sympathy or quarter.
