Idk, this was me yolo'ing 365 for a double. Not like I was 10% BF, but wasn't in bad shape. I was like 5lbs lighter when I hit it for a triple.

Know guys my size who were leaner and benched more.

Nice lift. I can see just from that vid, you have a lot of work you could do with your form.

You are no where near tight enough. Also, I dont know what you back looks like, but it does not look like you are benching off your lats. I cant see a decent elbow tuck.

Refinements to form and CNS programming is how we continue to make strength gains long after each individual muscle is 'tapped out'. Your 'grove' needs refinement and control.

Strong as hell. If you wanted, it there is more strength on tap there if you stip your form down and work on perfecting YOUR lift.

Bench is two things:

Frame & Technique.

If you have both you can be a dominant bencher, even 500+ naturally. You need thick bones and elbows and wrists in most cases to bench heavy. I run into issues with heavier weights around 300-315lbs which curtails me, but my natural friend who yeah is 300+lbs and 6'3-6'4 does this every week

135x10
225x10
275x10
315x10
365x10

and then either another set or two at 365 or 405 for 5-6 reps

Every week, with no huge goal of going heavier. Natural

Mad truth ITT

Lifting is greatest... but once you get to a certain point, its either "dat dere" or just accepting you have limits and not giving into insecurity and just lifting for health and maintenance and moving on to other hobbies to explore SRS

I have lanky ass arms (6’4 wing span) and tiny wrists, my bench is easily worst lift and despite all efforts doesn’t really improve

About 2 years of regular serious lifting and diet, and maybe 5 of regular exercise / not having a clue what I was doing in gym, and got it to 230, but now probably closer to 200 due to lost strength from Corona. Meanwhile had a deadlift of 450 lol

Pathetic, but still working at it

Like I said, I am not a good bencher, but I was blessed with being a strong guy for my size. I took 10 years off the gym and benched 300 the first workout back.

I am no longer 100% natty (full disclosure), but you dont need supps to be strong. Dug up this old vid of me training at my house about a year into my gym return. This is me at 190lbs. (doing BW reps) Think I was benching 385-ish at the time. Took me another 6 months to do 315x10 (which is a 405 range of strength). I did not max since I was working out at home alone.

Yes...lifetime nattie at this point and only about 1 1/2 years back training. Irony, 3 years after this vid, I figured out I actually had low-t the whole time. Like 12yo girl level below the bottom of the scale. I had a TBI 2 years earlier. Went under dr care from that point on since I had significant symptoms. Lack of strength or mass was not one of them
I'm aware of your OJ levels and story but my comment was not sad nor typical.

Typical would be claiming 325 for sets when 1 in 1000 lifters have the genetics to reach that, 99% of life time gymcels won't get there because the average male doesn't have the bone structure required to hit those kinds of numbers without using tech to go beyond that genetic mass and strength limit.

I said I had never personally seen it, not that it couldn't be done. You took my comment out of context.

When your average height 5'7 guy walks into a gym with dreams of a 315+ strict bench he's going to end up sorely disappointed as a natural. Let's not pretend 405+ is a realistic goal outside of the 0.1% of the population even on tech.

Thanks man, appreciate it and appreciate the advice.

No question there is a LOT more I could do in terms of form and support muscles, too. Never built my lats like I should have, and never really got technical coaching on my setup.

Maybe I'll get motivated and get back to the grind one day soon.

I know this wasn't addressed to me, but if you are running 5/3/1 properly that 95% is based off of your training max, which should be 85-90% of your true one rep max, so for practical purposes your 95% set is really more like 85%.

if its a legit bench and not some manlet turbo 2 inch ROM elbow lock out, yes. Makes shoving and pushing people easier, you can brace a lot harder to ram people, helps in wrestling holds and throws. It can slow down and stiffen and widen out your punches though as a drawback.

def not

trained in 3 different powerlifting gyms over the course of 5 years, including Chris Duffin's gym for 4 of those. Almost nobody could bench 405+, including plenty who had 5+ years of training.

Personally only got to 400 before my shoulders got fuked from overuse and I had to give up powerlifting (they're still fuked but I can work around it, just not much barbell stuff at all).

To get 405 it's a mixture of time under the bar, intelligent programming and injury prevention/management. The last variable is by far one of the hardest to manage.
Awesome pics. Great size. Look thick. Solid. Tight. Keep us all posted on your continued progress with any new progress pics or vid clips. Show us what you got man. Wanna see how freakin' huge, solid, thick and tight you can get. Thanks for the motivation.

Idk man, I think it depends where your at. When I threw, I knew teams that would have 3 or 4 guys benching over 405, hell my one buddy was doing that for reps freshmen year in college, and we had 2 legitimate 405+ benchers in my grade in high school.

The football team at college also had about 10 or so guys who could do 405 on bench as well, with one 500 lb bencher.

maybe, I think a big part is genetics though. I hit a 600 DL before ever benching 300 (yet to accomplish.) I train both lifts with equal consistanty and intensity.... 2.5 years of training. all my pr were hit between 215-220 lb and decently lean.

also work with a guy who works out very inconsistently and can hit 405 for 10+ reps any given day. he's a big dude but he's built for bench. he hit 500+ when he was more into lifting

That is true. You are correct that 405 for a guy in the 200lb range is pretty rare (natural or not). For me, I see people in the 405 range quite a bit. Many are enhanced guys, but some are just c0ck strong. When you get into the 495 range that is really what I call freaky....but again, in my experience I have seen people natural with those strength levels.

My point is speaking in absolutes. Like saying all guys benching that much are 'bloat loards' or on vit-c. What those attitudes do it perpetuate this idea, that fantastic natural gains are not possible. They are indeed. However it is different for all and you NEVER know until you try.

MY POINT
Here is my take away....people never really know what it possible until they put the time and effort in under the bar and eat! Just saying things are impossible, sets and environment where many wont even try. Or worse, jump on supps long before they even try. That is why I feel bad for so many of the younger guys. The internet has just biased people into thinking everyone has to be 'on' to make progress. It just is not true. And you NEVER know till you go put the work in!

If anyone were to have looked at me at 18, no one would have said that I look like i have good genes to gain mass and strength.

First pic is me at 18 and 140lbs. 3 years later I was 50lbs heavier (completely natural). No not everyone will have this response and I know I am blessed with a good training response. But if I grew up today, 18yo me probably would not have ever even believed that this would have been possible.
