Anybody ever skip a year of filing taxes?

Taxes are due tomorrow and I haven't even started. I'm tempted to just say "f it" and skip it this year.

How badly is the gubment gonna rape me if I do?

You can file for an extension until 15 Oct.

And to answer your question, hell naw. If you owe the IRS money you will have to pay it + penalties + interest. If the IRS owes you money they will basically tell you to **** off and fine you.

I think if you skip it, its a lot more headache and have to pay 5% more for each month. I think the maximum is 25%

I did mine on turbotax and it was pretty quick...they took all my info from Paylocity without me needing to fill it all out.

Fukn stupid that they know how much you already need to owe but have to jump through hoops with the process. They might as well just bill me how much i owe

What do you mean file taxes? Don't they just take taxes out when you purchase things? Never filed anything before...
"One day I won't be able to lift any more. Not I won't want to lift. I mean physically unable. That day could be decades from now or it could be tomorrow. All I know is that's the day I'll wish I could lift more than ever. The day I'd give anything for one more workout, one more set, or one more cardio session. So go hard and enjoy every workout, every set, every rep. Because one day you will wake up and you will never get it back."

TFW ended up owing NYS $1K in taxes because I worked in NJ and income tax in NJ is slightly lower.

Not going to lie, I'm so very glad to be moving to TX.

If you will be getting a refund, its not a big deal...if you are going to be owing, then you will be facing penalties.

Just use turbo tax..its pretty easy and free..mine was a bit more complicated than usual and spent $60 for the deluxe version. The hardest part is getting your 2018 AGI if you dont already have it but that just requires making a login to the IRS site and getting a copy of your transcript..the rest is just answering the turbo tax questions.

Theres several free options to file but I would recommend turbo tax, its pretty simple and easy.

Due dates are for owing taxes as paying them on time to avoid penalties and interest. If they owe you money and you would be getting a refund, they couldn't care less when you file or if you ever file. However if they do owe you money and you will want to get your refund eventually waiting can make it more difficult becuase tax software and websites are only set up to do this years taxes. If you file in December and they owe you money you will have no issues or penalties at all.

They dont fine you, you will get your return, it will just take forever. Cant do it online and have to do it mail in only. You have 4 years to file past the due date otherwise they keep the money and you should still file to make sure its sorted, so if you had carry over losses or anything from that year its not all fuked up.

edit - this is for federal, not sure of state rules. no state taxes crew.

You can still use the previous years turbotax if you purchased them, idk if they sell old versions still or not. There is a 4 year limit otherwise you aint getting the return and as some returns depend on previous year data if you dont have an approved return from all previous years it could mess things up. If you only have a w2 and maybe bank interest then it wouldnt matter but for carry over losses and stuff they might be hitting you with more questions.

The only reason we really need to do anything is to tell them what they don't know on the deductions side. If you only get the standard deduction they could do it all themselves based on employer W2 submissions but like I said it's different if you itemize.

extension just gives you extra time to file, if you owe money it doesnt give you an extension on that. if they owe you money youre good. Should atleast do a ballpark quick run to make sure looks like you dont owe money.

It's really not that hard.

Free fillable forms is the easiest approach in my opinion if you know what you are doing

Its not as bad as some people here are making it out to be, so long as you are a normal guy working a normal job. Just make sure to file it soon and don't wait too long.

That being said it should only take 30 minutes to file, so I'm not sure why you can't just do it.

my old stuff is all on there and it moves it over every year. I have back dated returns, once I sort out my chit then theres no reason I cant use something free these days since I dont have the same complexities anymore.

I thought with the new tax plan you can only itemize if ur like a teacher, artist/musician, military, and something else or 1099

I used to be able to itemize stuff but not anymore
