No Aquemini, ATLIens or lifestylez of da poor and dangerous? JFL
Aquemini is probably the GOAT rap album. Making a top 3 is near impossible though.. i could probably make a top 10-15 in no order, but even that would be difficult.
Madvillainy deserves a mention too, what a well put together album.

Agreed on Illmatic, but the other two for me would be The Chronic and Ready to Die.
How dare you!
Don't let yourself get attached to anything you are not willing to walk out on in 30 seconds flat if you feel the heat around the corner.

Aquemini edges ATLiens for me though, tracks like the art of storytellin, rosa parks, skew it on the bar, return of the G are too memorable.
Although jazzy belle on ATLiens might be my favorite Outkast song.
Andre3000 is probably the GOAT.

Gotta break it down by category.
West coast - All eyez on Me was my favorite
East Coast - Nas - It was written. One Mic was on a different album but that is one of my favorite jams of all time
Dirty South - This is my chit so I can't pick just one. Master P - Ghetto Dope, Juvenile - 400 degreez, 36 Mafia - chapter 2: World Domination and When the Smoke Clears are my favs
Outkast has some great albums but I'm not even really sure where to categorize them

Even making a Top 3 list of albums coming out of New York or the west coast is difficult.
The only album I think many people can come to a consensus that is top 3 is Illmatic. Other than that you'll hear a lot of different opinions that you could definitely make a case for. Infamous/Hell on Earth are probably two of my favourite albums. MF Doom I agree doesn't get enough love for his work. 2Pac and Biggie have some good works, I'm not sure I would put any of their works in the top 5 all time though, maybe top 15. Even a top 15 is difficult.
I know Canibus is kind of a meme/joke and got destroyed by Eminem but Rip the Jacker is a top 5 album of all time to me and very underrated (srs). Another one that is also underrated, even as far as Scarface works go is The Fix. If none of yall have listened to Rip the Jacker I think it's a must listen! I'll even throw in Visions of Ghandi by JMT

LOT of amazing rap albums out there, but these are the three I overall enjoy listening to the most from start to finish at just about any time. I'm sure where and when you grew up has a lot to do with your top 3 in not just rap, but just about anything and everything. I grew up in the NYC Metro in the 90's, hence...

Edit - Single favorite song...

Just stumbled across this gem on spotify.
Classic Canibus in beast mode.

I'm gonna get some hate here but one of my favorite albums growing up was Doggystyle. I'm an East Coast underground guy too lol. The album had so many dope tracks played by live musicians -- especially bass lines. Just a great sound deathrow had back in those days. Daz helped a lot with production arguably more than Dre. Love it.
