Yup well it could encompass learning just straight up knowledge, learning a skill and honing it to perfection, learning anything really. I'm constantly reading about things and trying to expand my horizons, absorb as much as possible, etc

I don’t get the point of learning as a hobby.
It's not a hobby per se, it's not even a conscious "ok I need to learn something new today" thing. It's more like something new pops up in life and learning about it is extremely enjoyable, COVID-19 would be a good recent example. The pandemic hit and I was digging into past pandemics, learning about them and our responses, learning a bit about the biology behind it, etc etc.

The same thing applies to work. I'm constantly trying to learn new things, and tackling challenges leads to more learning -- all of that leads to more $$$ but it's really just on the side.

True enjoyment comes from delayed gratification when hammering away at a problem, eventually destroying it, and learning along the way. It's basically the meaning of life for me, aside from making new humans and passing those learnings on to them

I had an existential crisis at 18 where I realized that nothing mattered. There was some freedom that came about from that realization because if nothing mattered then I could truly make life whatever I wanted it to be. I actually fell into depression for several years after that, but things eventually started to turn around once I found romantic love and I guess the prospect of starting a family kind of gave me a greater sense of purpose.

family really is the only thing that matters in the end. its why modern women are far more depressed than they were 60 years ago, despite having more career opportunities. feminism has destroyed womanhood and today women are turning 40, soending all that time chasing a career, and suddenly realizing what they actually needed was to be a mother

OP delivering a great thread.

I'm torn: either being in love with a women, or spending time with my family and friends. I used to be such a dink to my parents and little bro's when I was younger, and said many things I'd kill to take back. Now I love visiting them and their dogs, makes me so happy.

I would bet that being the recipient of the halo effect is up there too.... everyone just treating you well and being attracted to you because of looks. Maybe I'll see some of that when I'm done looksmaxing. Maybe not.

True that. Also, those kind of convos usually happen after happy/positive events, weddings, Christmas, New years eve, graduations, etc, which just make the moment better.

Still remember my HS graduation party, just my 3 best friends and i, sitting in a porch at 6 am, watching the sun coming out, sipping on some warm ass beers lmao, talking about everything we had gone trough in those 4 years together. The feels...

For example, a couple of my friends are really good looking. And everywhere they go, they are treated really well. Always smiling, happy, not a care in the world. Great career success despite being under qualified, girls falling in love with them every 2 seconds.

One could make the argument that people are drawn to them because they are happy, but I'd say people are drawn to them because they are very good looking, and they are so happy because of the constant positive feedback loop.

Those are always wonderful conversations. It's been a little while since I've had one of those as well, because they only happen once in a while. They're supposed to only happen once in a while, I think. Otherwise, they wouldn't be so valuable.

I remember bumping some old school beats on the steps to a friends house after a long night of partying (and on the back end of a 2-3 day bender), I was coming down from tripping. We just sat there and chilled, in silence for a bit and smoked. Was just a good end to a wild night/weekend.

There's got to be something to why that feels so satisfying. You and your tribe are fed--with good food, no less--safe, and happy. I think there's got to be some sort of signal your body sends out that says "You've done it. Just relax and enjoy yourself now."

Traveling and meeting/smashing local girls in those countries is definitely #1. Games and hanging with friends while fuked up is a close second.

For me, it boils down to connection and progression

Connection:
mentoring someone and watching them thrive
teaching my sons how to ride a bike, hit a baseball, manage money (they are 4 and 7), etc
great conversation with old friends over great scenery and a nice drink
discussing the future with my wife

Progression:
hitting a PR in the gym
finding a new hobby that you enjoy
it really just boils down to that sense of accomplishment your brain signals to your body when you do something significant (hard to explain but most people who accomplish non standard things will know what im talking about)

Bought my dream car and it didnt make me feel that great tbh. Considering selling it already and ive had it for like two months. Nuts man. Thought it would be the best feeling ever but just not the case

falling in love is definitely a massive high one of the best feelings in the world however these things come at a price. Also the lowest feeling when she skips out and loses interest.

for me working out, eating a good meal and having a good laugh the ones where your eyes water is probably the only reason I continue living.

I know the third one seems cliche and most people think that when you say it you just say it because your supposed to but spending time with my son and teaching him things is the most rewarding thing I've ever done. It's hard to explain but its just such and deep feeling satisfaction and accomplishment
