Bought my first house then lost my job an hour later

Signed the papers on a new build house (first time home buyer) then driving to the airport to return home I got a call and found out I won’t have a contract renewal come October 31st due to the pandemic. I’ll survive bros. If anything, it’ll make me work harder and enroll to get my masters and in hindsight, I’ll turn this bad timing bad luck into a positive. You can legit LDAR in life or live up to your potential, I choose the ladder always.

Biggest challenge... I am in quite the speciality field though so if I want my house to close and to still be able to move when the build is complete, I’ll have to take some super target type job until I can find an opening in my career path.

Keep your head up bro. It'll get better.

As you said, you're in a niche field. You'll get something due to market value. Live up to your potential.

So you work until Oct 31?

Not bad brah. Horrible timing of the call, but at least they gave you proper notice on the phone rather than the low-brow ways of cutting people that several companies did these past several months.

I would no doubt but the closing on my house is to be October 15th. My pay stops October 31st. The loan company always run a finally background check before closing so if it’s delayed at all or they find out that I’ll no longer be getting a paycheck in 2 weeks then I’m fuk’d and out of a house.

Funny thing is that my new mortgage will be $500 a month less than my current apartment rent (moving from expensive city to a nice house in a smaller market)

Yep and actually, I haven’t even got to work my actually job since March 9th. Just been sitting at home waiting to start work again. Been getting paid this full time. I have zero hard feelings at all towards my company and told them I’d love to come back eventually and will be using this time to continue my education

Yes but only $1000. I just love the house and my rent is very expensive right now, I want to try to keep this house and start my real life with my soon to be wife

If I close before I’m technically unemployed tho can I still pull this off?

you may be able go on the loan side, but you may not be able to on the cash flow side

What’s the plan on replacing your income?

was thinking of getting any job possible tbh (Costco, super target, anything really) all while I take my Masters courses and within a year I should have the opportunity to jump back into my career field. I have enough in savings right now to be able to pay bills for almost a full year if I get the house so really any extra money would just make it easier while I get back on track

Edit- only debt I have is a small amount of student loans also so that’s always a plus and why I’m not stressing much

There should be a cooling off period after buying something so big. I would look into rescinding the deal ASAP.

It’s ok OP. 4 more years. Trump will avenge you, brother.
All it takes is Mookie Betts, Steph Curry, and Joe Burrow all sitting in the same car in order for one drunk driver to make the world a significantly better place.

And be stuck in my $2000 a month apartment? Mortgage would only be $1500. I could move to a ghetto apartment for $1000ish a month but if I wait until my lease is up then I run the risk of being denied due to no job.

I think the move is to get any job possible in the state I’m moving to “AZ” then come October still close on my house and just pray it all goes through as planned

oh hell yea bro. I like your attitude. Just remember happyness comes from inside, not fancy houses and having a job. I bet there are homeless people happier then most home owners.
