Thread: You think NPCs in a game could ever be self aware? If so would you kill?

You think NPCs in a game could ever be self aware? If so would you kill?

Any of you played a game with incredible AI?

Lets say you are playing a game suddenly one of the NPCs started acting very realistic and aware of what was really going on and begs for his life. You google about it thinking it is some sort of an easter egg but can't find anything about it.

What if the games that we have now are earlier simulations? I can't really prove that the very universe ourselves live in is not a simulation.

Thoughts?

If it became aware of what was going on why would it beg to continue its existence?

It's an npc that from your description of the situation is expected to be killed. The npc has become self aware so it is conscious of reality and its place in that reality and somehow that makes it not want to fulfill its purpose?...

Your consciousness is tied to an egocentric view of the world with specific values and desires but that's not self-awareness, it's just the way you happen to be aware of yourself.

This already exists w/o such advanced tech. Start a Death Knight in WoW.
