It blows my mind that a country can hate itself so much. Imagine if some Japanese guy said this about his country on a any kind of stage but about Japanese people, or a Nigerian guy, or an Iranian, or someone from Kazakhstan saying this about their countries. Conceptually, I don't understand the premise behind the entirety of the argument that "Jewish" people are not white. I'm attempting to clarify and unpack the statement by addressing something that I also considered inconsistent (and something that doesn't seem to have a clear and direct answer).

Again, what is "white" as an ethnicity? "White" is not an ethnicity; it's a racial classification. Your skin is white, therefore you are white. "White" is a matter of perception, and many Jewish people are "white" visually, thusly, they can be categorized as "white".

To then say Jewish people aren't "white", to me, is too broad of a statement considering the above and I was attempting to have a discussion classifying that because unless you're stating that people who can trace their lineage back to the Middle East aren't white... But...
Under the U.S. Census definition and U.S. federal agency, individuals with ancestry from North Africa are considered white. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission regulations also explicitly define white as "original peoples of Europe, North Africa, or the Middle East
So I am generally confused as to the premise of the initial statement: "Jewish people aren't white."

You're treading in fairly murky waters considering that I'd probably say the large majority of Jewish people do not trace their lineage back to the Middle East. Further,your ethnicity is not Ashkenazi Jew if you trace 50% of your lineage to Britain and only >1% to Ashkenazi Jew.

Nobody is 100% Ashkenazi Jew.

That's a lot like me listing my ethnicity as the countries that are now part of Russia that I can trace lineage back to.

If you want a real answer and not some meme bait response. White was considered people whose ethnic heritage is from Northwestern Europe, Scandinavia, and Britain. A hundred years ago Mediterraneans weren't considered white (aka Italians, Spanish, and people from Egypt/Levant). So classically Jewish people weren't considered white, and today you can tell them apart from the average white guy because they share almost zero features of the typical German, French, British, Danish, etc etc person. The way people have viewed ethnicity has changed a ton since the 60s, before then it was strange if you not only dated outside of your ethnic group, but also your religion (Jewish people still have a big fuss over interfaith relationships).

Actually that was a very interesting post and I really appreciate that clarification because it does seem to make more sense. I guess because "White" is now considered a racial classification, it's shaken things up a bit

Tbh, I think that "whiteness" has certainly begun to encompass more races, but I do not see anything wrong with considering Jewish people "white" as well. I think, mainly, I was curious as to whether or not the statement was coming from somewhere a bit darker if that makes sense.

Np. I think people who says Jews are not white today and actively think about the topic, rather than being asked on their thoughts and that's is their opinion via natural observation come in two categories. The first is Jewish people who don't consider themselves white because they have very little in common with WASPs and don't consider themselves as a part of the same identity group (like British people not considering themselves European and not having the same interests as them). And the second group is anti-semites who want to expose that Jewish people don't have the same interests as WASPs and because of that they are the enemy and are trying to subvert Western civilization and are responsible for all the problems in our world. Like a lot of conspiracies, the observation might be sort of accurate, but the conclusions are dubious
