Proportionality wise, USA's ratio of service to civilian is still more than triple of China's. Not that it matters, but China and India are big motherfuking countries.

We dont need it anymore but it still exists. And there is a saying "leave a conscript 1 minute idle he will fap leave him 1 hour idle and they will phuck each other." So they are all given stupid jobs like that. Cheap& forced workforce.

North Korea is scary

North Korea and south korea both have compulsive military service for all males.

It could attribute to an inflated number.

Even the soldiers arent treated very well.

Usually if your family has any $ you can pay off your superiors and they won't make you do the dirty jobs like going out with holes in your boots to stand guard in the middle of the winter.
The superiors usually end up selling the rice rations they get for their soldiers and then they feed the soldiers corn.
You can pay off people it is very corrupt and if you don't want to serve all you need is enough $.
Also if you have absolutely no $ you end up doing the nasty jobs. Some NK guy that escaped said he would have to search the fields all day for herbs or some chit while being eaten alive by bugs and then hand the herbs or mushrooms to his commander who would then take them to the market and pocket all the earnings.
Plus apparently all you hear by the DMZ are wild boars being electrocuted when they touch the fence

NK has conscription, most of them arent even doing real military related jobs but just forced useless labor for the government

China claims to have a 200 million man militia that can be called up....so there is that.
