Misc Behavioral Psychologists Need Your Help (SRS)
So to put it into summary, just got into it at work with a bloke and his girl but this time it was quite different, never had this issue before and I'm not entirely sure what is causing it. It is well known that the body goes into a 'fight or flight' response whenever it perceives fear or danger and I have went into this state when it came to physical altercations but this was just a verbal one specifically pinpointed at me. Some runty looking **** just started arguing and going off his head swearing and such jsut to look big infront of his girl because I wouldn't let her in
Just curious here, never actually to me in a verbal confrontation even though the bloke was swearing and looked like a druggo junkie little ****head
Could eating a massive meal before cause it? Just trying to figure out how to make sure this **** doesn't happen again because I could barely talk from how fast my HR was, bear in mind I've dealt with alot of **** at work whether it be a fight, brawl, physically removing people and such but today was just different
Need your help here brahs cause I need to make sure this **** doesn't happen again

So are you saying you lost your train of thought when confronted with a meathead who was insulting and disrespectful? It happens to just about everyone at one time or another. Maybe you couldn't believe the stupidity of his (or their) statements and took it as a "personal attack"? Also common.
Are you saying you don't understand why someone might feel anxiety (or have an anxiety/and or panic attack) while trying to deal with confrontation? Or are you just focusing too much on that adrenaline response? As long as you didn't act impulsively in the wrong fashion, then I'm sure everything is fine!
What DID happen? You said "I need to make sure this dosen't happen again"?

Fact: My first-generation uncle was a boxer who fought Sugar Ray Robinson! He also fought in the war, sacrificing the career he deeply loved, so people could have the right to freedom.

What surprised me more is that I've dealt with more situations that were more dangerous then this one yet this specific situation put my whole body under a panic as if I was in imminent danger when I wasn't when in the other situations, I had more control over the 'flight or fight' response. I'm not sure if it's the big meal I had before work which I barely ever do which just loaded all the carbs into fuel on that one go or if there was another reason
I need to make sure it doesn't happen again because I felt under imminent threat when there really wasn't any, I had full control of my actions but I could barely speak due to my current heart-rate at that time. In general, the guy was being generally abusive verbally and was going off his head which I deal with mostly all the time yet in this specific situation, flight or fight hit me harder then ever because I usually talk it all out before anything physical happens yet I couldn't even talk properly to assist the other person in understanding. They were also both talking at the same time which might've just put me off, not entirely sure
I'm just trying to clarify what the **** just happened ^

your body went fight or flight?
the best thing, imo, you can do in these situations is slow your breathing. Like, focus on breathing slower and deeper. It'll take you out of your head and physically put your body in a more relaxed state.
you can't be in a stressed state when you're breathing like you're chilling, nomsayin?

Yeah I am in the security industry; been in it for like 3-4 years so I have dealt with alot of situations much more dangerous then this but this specific incident elicited a different chemical response in the body.
@Jimmehhh, I tried doing that mate yet these two idiots just would not let up, where I usually physically remove people for doing what they did, I had to conduct a more professional route due to the current atmosphere so I was trying to talk this out but I could barely talk with my HR being too damn fast, tried controlling it. I didn't do anything impulsive, still had alot of control over the physical parts of the body but the chemical, not really.

Huge adrenaline dump due to unprecedented event. Maybe in the past you've sub consciously picked up on signs that could lead to altercation, so you have been ready for it and more able to deal with it...but in this case it took you by complete surprise?

Your body unleashed it's adrenaline which causes an instant heightened state of anxiety, the heart rate increases causing you to lose your breathing rhythm.
It's a vicious circle and the base of your survival instinct.
You sensed you were directly threatened and knew it, welcome to feeling vulnerable.

Help me to understand why it happened in this specific situation when I have been in more dangerous situations that didn't elicit this harsh of a chemical response. That is what I'm trying to figure out

Take solace in knowing that if said bloke would have hit you, you probably wouldn't have felt a thing.
The entire world is in a heightened state of anxiety right now, look at how much negativity is going on daily even on this board. It's a fire storm that will eat at even the strongest mind.
It would take weeks of deep psychological therapy to find what from your past is eating away at you, everyone has something.
You clearly entered the fight or flight mode, but you didn't choose either and that's what allowed your body to keep pumping adrenaline stores in preparation.

Yes, this surprise encounter was going at lightning speed. You can't understand or take in what everyone is saying at once (how do the Jersey Housewives do it?
IDK...I don't watch the trainwrecks either
Just adrenaline kicking in, nothing major. You don't feel that way ALL the time, right? One other thought: Pre-workout supps with caffeine.... or just caffeine, possibly. Too much caffeine can amp up all that energy (it's happened to me).

You need to have cold showers every day (100% SRS)
Cold showers cause your body to release adrenaline and endorphins. This not only energises you at the start of the day but trains your body to handle adrenaline rush, helping you to remain calm in stressful situations.
If a verbal altercation gets you like this though then perhaps this line of work isn't suitable...

My point about cold showers is still valid.

My point about cold showers is still valid.
Maybe this guy reminded you subconsciously of someone in your past?

Yeah got no clue with that last remark, but one thing I know for sure is no highly carb filled meals 20 minutes before starting my shift, that's for sure

It is a maturity problem driven by your deep-rooted "need" to defend yourself.
It is my opinion, based on your posts, that you are a mini "tool", though you have a decent heart that could do well under the right guidance.
A real man would assert dominance non-verbally without the need for violence in the situation you described. Expressing the "need" is likely to flame situations to a point where embarrassment ensues.

"The manlet is a savage beast that knows no moral bound. After falling in disgrace to a manmore, a ravaged manlet would not hesitate to come from behind and land a sucker punch/ swing with a rock to the back of a manmore's head. They are ruthless and you need to spend some more time in the gutter to even begin trying to comprehend what goes on in their minds."

Not a psychologist but here's my theory
Adrenaline is very helpful in physical altercations, very unhelpful in verbal ones. All that extra energy your body is creating needs to be released in some way, and since you were trying to be calm and not physically fight this dude, the adrenaline energy had nowhere to go so it just made it hard for you to speak, a sort of freeze response.
That or you had too much stimulants like caffeine and/or energy drinks?
edit: I missed the post where you said you had hundreds of verbal altercations. No clue then. Was this one in particular really unexpected? Was the guy louder/scarier than usual?
