I have an ancestor that was North African that lived in Spain then migrated to the South. My last name is actually Spanish that got changed a little to sound English. Pretty crazy actually. Most Blacks have English surnames due to the Transatlantic Slave Trade.

Also have some Creole and Biracial family members in my ancestry.

I guess mine is mostly Turkish and German with small bits of serbian, armenian and holland mixed in. No need to have that tested unless I am adopted

Eh, they have sales and special pretty often. And you can choose to not release your dna for research.

Did this today, but:

I think 23andme gives you more information. They change up stuff sometimes though. Used to be a timeline under ancestry that estimated the time period when different groups likely entered your family tree. I have 1% Native American and I could swear that it even specified a general geographic area. Mainly thought that was cool because my grandpa used to say we had "French Indian" ancestry and maybe we do.

They still have that timeline, think as they get more information and a larger pool of people they are better able to more accurately pinpoint the origin of your genes and exact locations. Apparently I have some central asian in me but the website says they aren't able to confirm the origin/location of those genes. But they're just models as well so really it could just be more north indian genes idk. Mine definitely changed a little bit over time and gave more specific and defined geographical areas.

It is really hard to grasp how many lives lead up to your existence and how different most of the were vs. how we live today. Longtime daydream of mine to found an order resembling the structure of the Catholic church in the dark ages to preserve old technologies- the records and the actual living skills. Little outposts of pre-industrial humanity seeding the globe as a backup plan in case of a hard reset...farmers, shepherds, herbalists, leather workers, blacksmiths, and more, with their own systems of transportation and communication- tall ships, messengers, and birds, oh my!

I've enjoyed it and feel like it has been worth the money. I do understand privacy concerns. A bit bothered that a free raw upload site I used before was bought by someone else that might not be so ethical.
