I'm going to make a book called "Women are useless" or "Black people are inferior" and then when women or black people refuse to read it I'm going to use that as proof that those statements are true because I'm an intellectual just like you. I don't have to provide any proof of those ridiculous claims, I can just accuse you of them and then say if you deny them then that's just proof that they are true.

Then I'm going to give a whole lot of examples that are either historically inaccurate or just personal stories and then project them on to women and black people as a whole. And remember, if you deny my accusations based on historical inaccuracy or my own personal stories of me personally being racist or sexist then that's just even more proof that I'm right and that "women are useless" or "black people are inferior" because I set up that circular argument already. And if you challenge my circular argument and say it doesn't make sense then you're just proving me right even more.

But don't worry, the only way to "fix" yourself is to pay me and only me money. Because I consulted experts(my friends) on Women and Blackness and they say the only way to fix it is to pay me money so I can just accuse you of whatever I want because denying that accusation and asking for actual evidence just proves my point.

It's almost like there's this thing called the internet (hint, you're on it right now) where you can read reviews and get quotes and summaries and watch people who have read or watched something explain it. And you don't have to actually read the book to know what it contains. And you can have people put direct quotes up of whole paragraphs and make an educated decision on whether the book is good or not.

Kind of like in the book where Robin is invited to a party and when she gets there there's actually 2 parties next to each other and 1 party is mostly white people and the other part makes her scared and uncomfortable and full of anxiety because it's mostly black people and she has a freak out and then gets a bit closer and see's her friends in the white party and then has a massive sense of relief that she doesn't have to go to the scary black party. And somehow that proves that all white people are racist and uncomfortable around black people. It definitely doesn't prove that she's just super racist. Oh no of course now because she's the great white hope sent to cure our racism. And the proof of our racism is examples of her racism and us denying we're racist...

Ironic, you clearly didn't read what I said and are just angry someone disagreed with you.

I always tread lightly into these threads, because something about them tends to feel so "charged".

And I suppose that the reason for it is likely because there's a whole lot of "if you do X, you might be Z" type statements that get thrown around by the woke left. So it's understandable when the knee-jerk to being told that you may have some sort of prejudice is to recoil and say "Of course I don't" and, to perhaps, be insulted. After all, it certainly comes off as a character assessment to be told that you may very well be prejudiced without realizing it. It's being told that (a) you're ignorant, willfully or otherwise, and (b) if you don't realize it, it is because you weren't smart enough to see it, then finally (c) if you walk away from the dialogue now, you're irredeemably racist. That's a very hard, and uncomfortable proposition to grasp. You're also expecting another person to conform to your immediate beliefs in real-time... But that's not how you bridge a gap.

I don't think that starting a conversation with an accusation has ever, in the history, of humankind, been productive in a positive way. Especially not when that accusation is tagged with the additional statement: "And if you don't have this conversation right now, you are choosing the wrong side."

Of course there is cause for concern when somebody calls you a "racist"; and if you're upset at being called racist, well, good. That's a sign that you don'twantto be racist, and most peopledon't want to be. It's not "White Fragility" as much as it is the knee jerk reaction to being told you're doing something wrong even when you're not actively, intentionally, or otherwise racist by the classical sense of the word.

We do have to recognize that we all have some sort of internal bias, and often that bias directs us toward people that are similar to us. You can see it in many different aspects of life, but the reason we do this is to protect ourselves from what feels like could be a painful rejection from another group that considers us different. When people come to America from other countries, often, they seek communities in which there are others like them. In this way, they do not have to step too far beyond their comfort zone (in an already stressful situation) while rebuilding their lives outside of their home country. I don't think this is racism, though, as much as it is remaining in one's own comfort zone.

But that being said, we also cannot deny that some form of racism exists, it definitely does. I've certainly heard people say things I consider racist, especially behind closed doors. Some things I've heard are from people I wouldn't have expected it from. I think, what makes me most concerned is that there is this sort of unspoken "it's okay to say this to you because you're also white, so you'll probably understand, and nobody is around" thing that happens every now and then. That definitely exists, and if you haven't experienced it, I suppose that you're fortunate because it's always incredibly awkward. Truthfully, this is not something that occurs often, but when it does happen, it's always surprising. But that also isn't to say that it's limited only to white people.

Anyway, this is a wordy post, like always. Hard to start my thoughts without elaborating on them, especially when it comes to something like this.

To cut to the chase; if there's a dialogue to be had about what could be done for everybody to see each other eye-to-eye, that'd be fantastic.But it doesn't, and shouldn't start, with either side flinging an insult or a character assessment at the other.
