She approached with her hand extended,. I slowly stepped back. "No" she said. "I just want to shake your hand. You're amazingly gorgeous." As she walked by me she copped a biceps feel.

Tis true mayne. I just did the maths with relatively recent single and rep maxes for myself on the big 3 and it checks out. 75% is a ~10 rep max, 80% is ~8 reps, and 85% is ~6, nearly on the dot for all 3 percentages. Give or take maybe one rep in either direction depending how good you are at rep work vs max effort singles.

I disagree tbh.

I love deadlifts, they're my best lift and they build some great functional strength if that's the goal... but honestly for looks they don't do much, they build some nice spinal erectors but for most people that's about it. I was able to deadlift 500lbs while still near enough twink status. Rows and pullups are generally superior for back development for most people. It's much more viable for a guy with a big deadlift to still look DYEL than a guy with a big bench.

If all you cared about was how you look in the mirror, bench press is superior. I actually got better results for aesthetics when i completely removed deadlifts from my routine and did RDL's instead.. and i was a 'you must do deadlifts' kind of guy.

I don't agree with this either(not chit talking i generally agree with your posts - just my opinion). People are different, it depends on your muscle fibre make up and most importantly CNS optimisation. If you've never attempted to max out an exercise or do singles/triples, your rep range weight will be higher as a percentage of your 1RM. You can makea general rule (such as the way 5/3/1 attempts to), but the standard distribution varies massively and thus applying this rule to individuals is nothing more than a rule of thumb.

This can be evidenced in your training, so for example i tend to go through phases of rep work and then heavier/strength phases.. and the reason is, once i get better at rep work there's a 'delay' and it takes a bit of time of specialised strength work to 'optimise' the muscle i put on doing the rep work and thus reflect in my 1 rep max. If you could assume everyone was fully CNS optimised to recruit the all their muscle fiber a rule of thumb might be a little easier to formulate and maybe the actual physiological differences don't vary that much, but for most people who aren't powerlifters it's not the case.

Funny. This whole quarantine has made me realize how useless deadlifts are.

I've also realized that squats, while good for building mass, are kinda ghey. Who wants a round thick bubble ass anyways.

Stair sprints, bench, military press, flyes, weighted pull ups are all you need.

100% brosciencelife regiment.

The biggest mass builders are the 3 powerlifting movements. Throw in curls & overhead press for aesthetics.
New account. OG brah, Zyzz was my homie.

Powerlifting > Olympic Lifting > Strongman > Bodybuilding.

Deadlift > Squat > Bench > Overhead Press > Curls for the Girls.

Agreed. I saw a chart a couple of years ago based off of Prilepin’s chart. 6 rep max was 85%, 8 rep max 80%, and 10 rep max was 72%.

There has to be a truth in that because it's been preached by every lifelong gymcel for 100 years

Lol, peaking cycle meaning a training regimen based around building towards peak 1rm performance on a given day, not bicycle riding.

You give a whole 36%? Chiiiiiiit, they are lucky if they get 25% out of me. And it's not because I'm an endurance athlete either. I give em the most disappointing 35.0 seconds of their lives and then split.

Das it mane. Disregard sloots.

Tbh I've never trained for a 1rm or even attempt max, you lose a shoulder and tours over.

True story. I had bad form and miraculously wrecked my back and got sciatica. Gone now, but tough tough lesson to not have ego with deadlifts and use bad form.

Years later got the same injury again carrying too much luggage lol. Healed again...best to use your head some when lifting with your back or carrying heavy loads.

I think the reason for this is so many people just do deadlifts for strength/to see how much weight they can move. If you stuck to an 8-12 rep range, and did a slow/controlled negative. I think the results would be much better and as a whole the lift would be a lot safer.

If you think about it. The deadlift is a lift where guys routinely put more weight on the bar then they can safely lift. Pull said bar with every bit of force they can muster, even when their form begins breaking down, and then they just drop the weight halfway through the lift to avoid the negative portion. Honestly I think its the only lift where people do that.

I'm not really a fan of deadlifts anymore and just prefer to stick to a stiff leg DL or RDL.
