I'm sure it's a great field but coming from someone who has spent half of your life as an officecel and hating every second, med all the way.

Plus you get halfway into med and dislike it you can still go back to your old profession.

Imagine how impressed sloots will be when you tell them you're a doctor. Or how proud your parents will be of you, they'll tell all their friends.

Free education to become a doctor and you will still be under 30 when you finish, seems like an absolute free hit to me.

Being a doctor is one of the worst jobs lmfao. I work with a ton in the hospital and most are fuking miserable. Lmao at “passion”. That is going to fade so fast when you’re working 60 hrs a week and constantly stressed with huge decisions on your shoulders every single day and lawsuits and tons of paperwork and charting. Also it’s hard to care about your patients when most are idiots and also don’t even give a fuk about their own health. Seriously. Almost all doctors went into healthcare to help people and almost every single one of them fuking HATES patients now.


Everyone has this romanticized view of what being a doctor is like and the reality is completely different than that unless you are a dermatologist and live in the US. And to get to be that you have to be the top of your class with multiple publications.



It’s so not worth it but once you start the journey you’re literally stuck with loans so you can’t quit. You’d be shocked how many people are trying to get out of healthcare that are in it. The only people trying to go into it are naive premeds who know fuk all and just see the money and status and tv shows.

Personally I'd go with the thing you think is most worthwhile and the thing you feel you have more of a passion for. And trust me you are already more of a human than 80% of the drips of the UK population, regardless of your heritage

When you're older do you want to look back on a life of doing something you cared about and saving people's lives, or do you want to look back on 40 hours of every week wasted in a career you don't give a sh*t about but with potentially (but not even definitely) and extra few grand a year for a car that is 2 years newer

Congrats I'm starting medicine in London this Sept, I can't wait. First degree for me though at 28.

How are you getting it funded? I thought the goverment didn't fund second degrees unless it was the 4 year course.

OP let me offer a different perspective from all of the other good answers in this thread. If the studies are being paid for it would be a great idea to take it. An opportunity like this only comes once in a lifetime and learning something completely new especially about the human body will make you into a more well rounded person and expand your mind. You're obviously a smart person so you understand the importance of self growth and how beneficial this would be.

studied a year for MCAT. paid about 1 grand to take the test after 6 months of studying.

As for rents versus salaries, yes London has higher salaries but it’s not enough to offset the rent. Brb, salary in Lancashire is 20% less, brb rent is like 40% less.

Anyway, to answer OP, do it *******. You can move to other places in the UK down the road and still earn excellent money.

I don't think going to med school " to be a doctor" is the best mindset. Do you have a specialty you'd like to focus in, or are you looking to just run a small family doctor practice? Honestly, the most reward and fulfilling specialties are being a surgeon of some kind. You are directly saving/changing peoples lives and you can make a huge difference. Being a family or General Doc is fine, but I think you'll find it's more of a bland experience. Diagnosing colds and giving Rx's all day.

If you want to find an area to be passionate in and specialize in, you'll be looking at more than 5 years of education for sure.
