Social media will ruin your life.
Perhaps one of the more "great awakenings" I've had in the last few weeks is that social media / the internet is just a really bad thing.
Once viewed as a way to connect and show others what we were proud of, has now really just turned into showingoff
So many threads here on things about how dating is harder, how not living in a nicer house isn't enough, how even being not muscular isn't enough -- even if YOU'RE proud of it.
We've allowed the internet / social media to really warp our minds of how we see things and people and base what's attractive or valuable based off of that.
The more you unplug yourself from your phone and wasteless browsing on the internet the better off you're going to be mentally.
I like MISC and trolling because it's honestly just a refreshing take on what people find so serious and people DO take the internet / social media serious that it's pretty much disgusting.

The internet is a fantastic tool for whatever you desire to use it for.
The problem is how you are utilizing it.
Basically, problem exists between the chair and the keyboard.

The times when I would go two to three weeks without the phone or internet I felt a lot more focus , calmer & I was just enjoying things more. Social media is just easy dopamine. Sh!t fuks with peoples heads

That, and it also helps me to be able to learn in solitary which is usually what I like to do when picking up skills. I don't like to reveal I'm learning something IRL until I've already become proficient enough

Best of all, don't get obsessed in the first place. Who needs social media? Get a life.

THE MEDIUM IS THE MESSAGE. Marshall Mcluhan and Neil Postman showed the way and every word they spoke applies 1000x to technologies like social media today.
Social media is inherently bad as the medium is inherently poisonous to constructive discourse.
The only "good" way to use social media is to use it as little as possible.

i dont think it is the internet. its just that culture, knowledge in the mainstream, even people are trash or too hard to sift through in real life. so you go to the internet, as it is broader and all there.
a great example is fitness knowledge. people i speak to in real life will always say some thing crazy like using a vibrating belt for stomach fat or stupid infomercial crap, it's mind blowing

I only misc, I stay off the twitter now, social media is legit cancer
-Some people say good things come to those who wait, truth is, good things come to those who work..... who work later.....who work harder...... who are willing to go further than anyone else to get them. If you're waiting for good things to come to you, you'll be waiting for a pretty long time.
-I'd rather live life saying "I failed" than "I could have"

At this current moment, I'm learning how to skate. I have plenty of videos regarding the "how to's." The end result is that I get better at it because I am continually exposed to content directed toward bettering my level of skill.
I do the same thing with guitar, and I do the same thing with every DIY project I embark on.

If you're not talking about youtube and you're genuinely checking ********, twitter, instagram or something like tik tok during a practice on a routine basis, your practice isn't focused and your minor benefit received from checking your phone mid practice would be far outweighed by a small amount of forethought before practice and keeping the phone off.

It's not as simple as whether you "can locate valuable content." It's about cost/benefit and the outcomes that the structure of the technology inherently biases itself towards. All technology is inherently biased towards various ends and have various effects entirely based on the type of medium it is. You should educate yourself on the medium is the message and the writings of Marshall Mcluhan and Neil Postman.Error typically is between chair and keyboard.

nobody can even go a few days without the internet its impossible lol. I remember when I got locked up I couldn't have a phone or internet for several days and I felt completely disconnected from the world. Ive also done a day without it before and it was weird too.
Funny thing is I had no smart phone or social media apps before 2012 or so. I was much more productive. But things have changed.
