Any parent pulling their kid from school

Is a massive cuck. US is already tremendously falling behind in education, so yeah let’s opt to pull our kid from school for the whole year even after the US pediatric association said kids need to go back

Why does there “need” to be some kind of meeting halfway? Our previous normal seemed to be the best we could do, with the conditions that existed at that time. Those conditions changed, so the previous normal is no longer the standard.

FYI, personally I feel if the state/schools feel it is safe to open, I submit to that. Our local school district just pushed opening to the right one month. I don’t see them opening at all.

Because the consequences of American kids getting an entire year of suppressed education would be colossal, or even an entire semester.

There were times I loathed high school but if I was in this current situation then I’d fight like hell for people’s right to go back

That isn’t the only variable being used to make decisions though. It never has been. Previously, it was the most important, or at least weighed so much more than any other variable, it was clearly the answer. No matter what your political stance on the pandemic is (because pandemics are political), it is now taken into consideration for collective issues, like closing state parks, bars, and schools.

We are seriously considering homeschooling. The only positive aspect I can see of the public school system is socialization and that can be accomplished other ways as well.

there isn't really much to indicate that it is the kid that infects the parents, moreso the other way around. Even if this is the case, coronavirus has a low enough mortality rate for those under the age 65. Implement safety measures in schools to limit the spread. If the kid or parent has underlying conditions then other arrangements can be made. Or if the kid is under the care of a grandparent, but at the very least there should be a choice here.

Saying that the misc is staunch "anti-public schools" misrepresents the point. A lot of people mostly have beef with what is being taught in these schools, i.e: teaching gender fluidity, being exposed to LGBT themes early in age and later on through high school and university, mostly indoctrination of liberal and leftist ideas and the dumbing down of standards. However, these arguments never typically centered around home schooling not being feasible for a lot of parents, families relying on lunch programs, poorer people being left behind, avenues for reporting child abuses, learning disabilities/disorders, etc.

Let's be honest, online learning is a joke and most people don't have the means to home school their child. The option for the parent to send their child to school should at least be there, which is really what the argument is about now, which is different from arguments centered around what they are teaching in schools. I would seriously consider homeschooling but I'm also not going to sit there and pretend it's an option that works for everybody because the alternative often entails a kid not being able to read, write and do math up to standard and grow up not being able to do or know basic chit.

On a social level, education can be a useful measure. On the individual level, it doesn't matter.

Credentials matter for a lot of jobs but the learning itself doesn't. You don't learn anything useful in school, it's daycare. It's about how smart someone is, not about how much schooling they get.

Nature > nurture. A while back, there was this study where they took a bunch of low IQ black kids and gave them privileged white upbringings and educations, it did jack chit for making them smarter or more successful.

Lettuce be oatmeal, most parents are not homeschooling their children. In the mind of most parents, now that schools are closed, their kids are even more of a chore than they were before. They are not addressing that by dedicating more resources to them.

We were gonna look into preschool for my son this year, he'll be 5 this fall. Couple things that concern us: it'll be a hard task to ask young child to wear a mask all day. And second, after seeing all thru the BS, I won't doubt if groups of students will be intentionally infected to push the agenda.

But good news is we've already been teaching him to read before this all happened so I'm not terribly worried about him not getting in a classroom right away.

the biggest indicator of a future GM in chess is a kids ability to rattle off famous matches. they tried to back-propagate this by teaching kids famous chess games and it didnt work. the reason the GM kids knew the famous chess games was that they had a deep interest in the game- not because they memorized these matches.

There's plenty of proof academic standards have increased steadily over the past couple of decades. Here in Texas you can compare standards and they've become more and more rigorous since I was in school.

Now what I think has gotten worse, and has impacted children, is a lack of good parenting skills. The complaints about education typcically don't come from schools in the suburbs, because they do fine. It's our urban schools that are always behind. But, those urban schools by law are teaching the same things the "good schools" do. However, if teacher turnover is the problem that's because the kids don't know how to behave, and that once again comes from parenting.
Being anti-2nd Amendment is like saying "We have too many rights, please take some away!"

They're not being honest about the real point. Many, many miscers thought schools were evil institutions up until a few months ago, for the reasons that you mentioned. Now all of the sudden these same people don't have childcare, and from past threads I've seen on the topic, that seems to be the real issue. I absolutely feel for families who are struggling with online schooling and juggling other jobs and responsibilities. Big but, I have no sympathy for grown adults who cannot discipline their children nor care about their education or feed the children that they created. The abuse and screening for learning disabilities thing is huge, you're totally right about that. But really....I know this is harsh...stupid, lazy people are going to be left behind, and they were already being left behind in public schools. What's really frightening is how much the non-retards are flourishing after not being immersed with kids who are beyond saving. It sucks, but I can't say I'd be mad if I were 15 again and no longer having to tolerate the window lickers for 7 hours a day. Online learning is a joke when you're a joke. :/

I don't even disagree that the option should be there, but I'm not going to stop pointing out how quickly sentiments have changed.

It also seems like if you take away the religious fundamentalism they may get in a private school, or the bullchit discipline issues and test taking prep they deal with, they would actually have time to be normal kids who enjoy normal kid things. Kudos to you if you go through with it.
