Are Boiled Crayfish Delicious?

I saw in Discovery Channel(or was it Nat Geo?), they have festivals in Louisiana where they serve boiled crayfish. I saw many people, even kids sucking on the shell.

Are they delicious? We dont have crayfish here, but got lots of shrimps and prawns, which I love(low calorie/high protein). Seeing these people cooking thousands of crayfish then serving them makes me really wanna try one.

We call them crawfish and yes that is a thing that happens. We boil them up spicy as fuk and drink beer while eating 10 lbs of them. You must remember not to touch your eyes or dink after eating them or it'll set you on fire. You have to boil them alive so they suck up all those good juices to get proper flavor. They don't naturally taste as good as shrimp so you need to spice them up

don't think I ever had crawfish but yes those cajun seafood boils are the chit, especially when they include a boiled potatoes with it and a boiled egg with the corn, it's really good. only thing is I hate peeling the skin, when I got it from this place a few weeks ago my shrimp still had the shell and I had to peel it off.

Yup, they're delicious. Like little lobsters. Most of them are so small you just eat the tail meat, not much in the claws.

It's an acquired skill, takes many many hours of practice to get fast, but some folks have it down to what can only be described as art.

Only downside is price. As the fella above mentioned a grown man can easily knock back 10+# of crawfish (only about 1# of meat, if that) and at $3/lb live and $6-10/lb cooked that adds up quick. Personally as much as I love them I would rather grab a nice Prime ribeye or NY strip for that kind of money. I only go for crawfish a couple times per season.

This mini lobsters can be a pain to get the meat out of them if really hungry though

First tear the head off and suck the spicy juice out. Next, you tear the first 2 or 3 lines down off the tail, squeeze the bottom tip of the tail and the meat slides right out

In 'Merica we call them crawfish.

They are delicious and the fixins you put in the pot with them are great as well. Corn, potatoes, green beans, asparagus. mushrooms

Nothing like having a crawfish boil with your friends and sitting around drinking beer.

Love them! We order 30 pounds every June. The come live in a cooler. We will set up the cooker in the backyard by the pool and cook the crawfish, put them in a cooler while we cook the shrimp, sausage, potatoes and corn. Add a **** ton of cold beer and it makes a really nice get together for friends. Also plates are never ever supposed to be used. Throw some newspaper on the table and dump that **** out.

As people said pull the meat out of the tail. We end up having some leftover from boil and my wife and I will sit down and pull all the meat out and freeze them. Something we usually make is a crawfish and andouile mac n cheese. It's tasty as phuck. I have about three pounds of tail meat in the freezer still; I'm probably going to do some etouffee.

No, they just toss them in boiling water with seasonings it would take too long to clean out a tiny crawfish

Nah, you can devein them really easy after you pull the tail meat out. There is also some yellow stuff that comes out with the tails. It's kinda like an organ; some people eat it.

Me and the boys went down to Nola and we got crawfish. We loved them so much that every year we do a crawfish boil at someone's house. We chip in for the live crawfish and all the ingredients. We bought a crawfish pot and we have a boil every year. You just dump it on the table and it's dope.

**** YES...and it goes beyond the crawfish, it's the whole atmosphere of spring/summer backyard get together where you spend all day and night eating crawfish, drinking beer and watching NBA playoffs with breaks in between.. what did crawfish season do this year to deserve covid

I catch them once a year at Moosehead Lake because it's so clean. Honestly I don't think they taste like much at all. Nothing like lobster that's for sure.

Most boils I have been to included soaking the live crawfish in a saltwater bath prior to boiling. This does a pretty job at cleaning them. The water goes from clear to dark black as the bugs purge themselves (both ends).

That being said, it only takes an extra .5 seconds after peeling the crust to devein it, which I would do with or without the cleansing saltwater bath. I recommend trying it if you never had it, but I’m not religious about them like some of my friends down here, who even have regular dreams about them (srs).
