I can see this being the case.

I was travelling when this whole thing kicked off so barely followed the news but started hearing about some virus in China, then that a Chinese town (Wuhan) had gone into lockdown, thought nothing of that commies gonna commie.

Then I started hearing things about Italy possibly going into lockdown and thought yeah that's never going to happen in a free western democracy but it did, then more and more western countries started locking down and borders were shutting and I decided to come home early but all we were told is that it was to "flatten the curve" "stop the healthcare system overloading" 4-5 months later large parts of the economy are still shuttered and a return to normal is nowhere in sight.

I worry about the precedent this sets for the future as well, when the government feels like stifling our liberties so overtly and they're actually supported for doing it.

The world should be open it is very lethal to a small subset of the population, protect them and let the rest of us live our lives. Australia has shown elimination is not possible.

I'm really tired of this chit I'm not living I'm merely existing, it's no fun and needless.

Sure except this type of stuff has been done in response to pandemics since the dawn of civilized time. The term Quarantine originates from 1700s Italy where incoming boats were locked down for 40 days after arriving at port in order to stem the spread of plague


Shortcomings in our execution of lockdowns can be attributed to chit-tier preparation for events like these

Quarantine means you isolate when you're ill, or when entering a new place to account for dormancy, not trying to keep virtually every healthy person under house arrest and ordering businesses (except globocorps of course) to close. Nothing like this has ever been done before.

Not sure why you're posting stuff that can be easily disproven with a few typed words and clicks. The 1918 Spanish Flu response involved mass lockdowns, at least in the US, and was also hit back by an "anti-mask league" and anti-lockdown protests.
