Played soccer, football, and wrestling in high school.
Wrestling was easily 5x harder than soccer. Soccer was easily 3x harder than football.
Wrestling practice was just 3-4 hours of grueling hell.
Football practice was just boring. There was so much standing around with bursts of strenuous activity.

Wrestling. Coach in hs would turn the heat on in the room and make the wrestlers run circles. Constantly doing cardio then lifting weights. Football could suck ass too, but it depends on your position

It was either the United Special Operations command or the Army special forces were looking for ways to find recruits that were able to complete special forces training in greater percentages. They were wasting too much money on candidates that couldnt complete training......Where did they decide to start recruiting, high school and college wrestling teams....
No other sport is even close in terms of intensity, mental toughness and physical difficulty..

Wrestling practice was intense as **** but I gotta be honest, nothing sucks more than running
Oh and swimming laps is exhausting as hell too but mostly because I wasn’t used to it. And it can’t ever suck as much as running because at least you’re in cool water.

I'm just loling hard at every "football" answer ITT.
Thats probably one of the less grueling ones. And don't interpret me wrong, I like football.
If you can play a sport for YEARs and still have this body:

... thats not grueling.

I've played every sport, but the hardest for me was swimming by a long shot. The amount of cardio you need is ridiculous, the practices were long, and we were a ranked team so we all were pushed hard. We'd have practices where we'd swim for 2.5 hours straight, no breaks. We weren't allowed to hang on the walls/bulkheads or anything, we had to tread water for the entire 2.5 hour practices. We also did a lot of water polo for conditioning, but the worst was the specific swim conditioning we'd do. Swim underwater for 25 meters without breathing, get out, do 10 push ups, another 25 meters underwater, 10 situps, etc. We'd do dolphin kicks where its you had to tread water with your hands above your head in the 20 foot deep part of the pool. Then we had to do 50 50's on the 50. Essentially swim 50 meters and rest every 50 seconds, 50 times. If you swam it in 30 seconds, you get 20 seconds of rest, and then you start again. The faster you finish the more rest you get, but it gets brutal after 30. Then on Saturday mornings 7AM in the Winter, you're at the pool, smells like chlorine, you haven't eaten yet, and then you jump into the pool which is ice cold and robs you of your breath. The mental toll too is probably the worst. You're just staring at the bottom of the pool for 2.5 hours, while breathing while water fills your mouth, and if you drink too much water on your rest you get cramps.
I've done baseball, football, lacrosse, hockey, wrestling, soccer, tennis, track, cross country, volleyball, and a few others. Swimming by FAR was the most physically and mentally draining sports I've ever done in my life. Wrestling comes in at a close second, but I found it to be easier than swimming.

Wrestling is horrible for sure, but running as a competitive sport is pretty horrible too, especially crazy interval workouts.

The thing with wrestling is it isn't just cardio
isn't just endurance
isn't just strength
isn't just diet
isn't just weight cutting
isn't just the 3 hour practices of balls to the wall trying to kill each other
it's everything put together into the training / practices and it's also basically year long
I challenge any of these miscer's who haven't wrestled before to try a practice with college athletes at the lowest level that are in the 140-180 lb weight divisions. you can weight 250 if you want. you'll get smoked and wrecked and be begging for mercy and sucking air in 15 minutes lol

So it's confirmed. The gayest sports are the hardest to train for.
Wrestling (not the cool wwe kind, the gay kind)
Water polo

Wrestling
Swimming sucks while you are doing it but you don’t get injuries that you have to deal with really. Been forcing myself back into the pool to condition for upcoming bjj tournament and there’s nothing I dread more then pool sprints after my first couple are done and I’m gasping for breath but force myself to sprint another 50.
Been doing 200 warm up
2 100 sprints 30sec rest
4 50 sprints 30sec rest
6 25 sprints 10second rest
30second rest
Than 200im
Then 400 warm down
