I've noticed with my 2 poor friends of mine that I can't speak freely with them

There are 2 friends of mine that we go way back with skateboarding. One of them was literally a best friend for years. Neither of them made very good decisions the last several years whereas I did. Needless to say there is a considerable gap between us now. I still talk to them from time to time on WhatsApp. I started noticing that I can't speak freely with them anymore. They are quick to disagree and don't even provide evidence to their counterarguments. Literally just disagreeing to disagree. One of them even told me I should modify what I say to be more "supportive" of his friend's skateboarding. Any advice I give is criticized. Back when I was in their socioeconomic bracket years ago, i could speak freely.
This in sharp contrast to another skateboarding friend of mine (3rd friend) who did do better with his life and with him, I can say whatever the fuk and it's all good. I bring this up as a possible example of what's going on nowadays. The left in this country which harbors a lot of poor people act in this manner. They hate people who have done better than themselves and are quick to tear down anything they have to say. Am I on to something here?

Unfortunately, a lot of skater dudes never grow up and continue to harbor resentment for "the man" or anybody that is doing well financially for themselves. Usually goes hand in hand with being addicted to drugs. Feelsgoodmane that I skate for sport/exercise and left "skate culture" when I was 17. It attracts a lot of burnouts.

YOU cripple yourself if you feel like you can't speak freely. There is a way to call people out on their BS or lack of listening ability with tact, and others will respect you for it. One of my best mates has a house, wife, 2 kids and a great job, he's way ahead of me in that respect. But that's my phucking guy and I'm really happy that he's making it. If your 'friends' are going to get jealous or insecure about your success or trying to drag you down/hold you to their level they were never truly your friends.
