Garden update and chickens and duckies

Hubby takes care of the chicken and ducks I gave up, so that’s why the pin is messy but it keeps out the bobcats, eagles, hawks, bears, mountain lions and coyotes

He also built a ramp with an angle /turn in it to keep out the snow or wind so they can go in and out of the coop

And that’s my garden so far

I vote for goats. They are a lot less trouble.

Nice place; love the view.

How long is your gardening season there? Like average first freeze/last frost?

Digging the view. Didn't peg you for a country girl. Those western skies are something else they have this yellowish hue to them. Down south its pinkish. Here are some pics of where I grew up.

Here are some where my mom lives

You can take this creek all the way into the Gulf of Mexico.

Be glad you don't. With warm weather you get reptiles. We have tons of water moccasins, rattlesnakes and alligators. The biggest things we get are wild hogs and they are terribly destructive. I live far enough south that we don't have bears.

How long is your gardening season there? Like average first freeze/last frost?[/QUOTE]you can start planting in May and if you cover the garden during the first snow/frost mid /late October by November we’ll have feet of snow off and on until April. It’s a high desert so it can be in the teens at night and go up to the 60-70’s during the day in the spring and fall. We even get hail in 100 degree weather at the end of the summer

Definitely nice to look at. Are you enjoying the work, though?

I have some farm land and when I was younger dug (manually) all the irrigation channels on it. These days...I'm happy to let other people use it. I think I'd have to retire and make a farm homestead type thing, maybe an earthship type place to really get into it again.

My proudest farm moments were harvesting cauliflower...it shocked me back then just how rigid they were, and far more tasty, than any I had ever had before.

most the lands sage brush and lands pretty pricey per acre here so we wouldn’t have enough to do any real farming just hobby. And we made a track for the boys dirt bikes on part of it. But I love it, I grew up with horses, goats and cows plus a huge garden. He grew up in with horses and chickens.
