Any misc business owners? Srs advice please

Can any experienced business owner give some input?

The story is 2 years ago I had a close friend who I discussed business ideas with. He asked if he could open up using my business idea in a location that wouldn't affect me. (Or so I thought)

Anyway, 2 years later, he is literally trying to open up his 2nd location between my family member and me. On the same street as my uncle and ~5 minutes away from me.

He doesn't care that he is competing for the same customers as me even though this was all my idea in the first place.

Should I be mad? Or just fk it and move on. Unfortunately we have a lot of mutual acquaintances that I know he will try to convert to him with lower prices, resulting in a price war as well.

I already learned not to share business ideas after this experience. It definitely ruined our friendship (was 1 of my closest friends at the time)

That is on you, don't give your ideas away. Though you are right to be pissed.

Back when I was self employed my supplier opened up a half mile away from me. Unethical cocksucker. He knew how much business I was doing based on supplies. Figured he could muscle in.

Happens every day, brah. There is no such thing as friendship or loyalty when it comes to money (or sloots).

Relative of mine owns a niche flipping business. They hired someone to help run the day to day and after 3 months she quit and started her own flipping business using all the contacts and secrets she learned lol. Lesson learned.

Your choice now is to pivot or otherwise work on a competitive advantage. Everyone always seems to want to compete on price, but that should only ever be a last resort after trying absolutely everything else. Find a way to deliver more value that isn't price.

Fukkk. Yes I told him I think it's fuked up. Problem is, he doesn't even see me as a friend anymore.

I really want to get revenge, but I feel like things will go to far.

So pissed off I left the gym after a few sets because I couldn't focus.

What about, I remember two neighbors in my old town.

One had his own limo service so the neighbor decided to start his own.

I always wondered if the two had animosity towards each other.

I'd be pissed but who even knows if their target markets overlapped.

I think the real problem is he (for whatever reason) was setup to capitalize on the opportunity better than you were.

Of course your best bet would have been to keep your idea to yourself in the first place, but beyond that...

If you were the one opening up your second location instead of him I don't think you'd be worried one iota about what that guy's up to.

You let someone know about that idea before YOU were ready and now you're getting screwed because of it.

Well the problem is this. My business is extremely saturated as is. I didn't know that until I opened.

I still do well, but my "friends" think the market is BOOMING, as in there are millions to go around, but its not so.

Year long friendships have ended over a $20 loan that the other person didn't want to pay back.
You'll know who your friends or your enemies are when money is involved.

Yes it sucks, but that's life.
The only thing you can do is by providing better service, sell better products, and in general just have a better company than your competition.
Whether he was your old best friend or not is irrelevant when it comes to sales.

It's always a shame when you lose a friend. But at least he showed his true colors, so there's not that much to be sad about.

Money has that effect on people. People will ignore every moral, cultural, and ethical consideration to get at it. It's a primal urge. Not exactly consolation, but ultimately a part of being a human bean.

If your market can't support 2 businesses, then dip out and do something else or make a strong plan to out-compete him.

Thanks bro. I was seriously thinking about revenge all morning like reporting his family to the IRS (they do illegal chit) and breaking their windows when they open. Yes I was that upset.

We have a lot of mutual acquaintances and he is getting them all involved in his business knowing I was a one man show.

Really sucks being betrayed like this by someone you truely wanted to help, but such is life.

New plan: stay focused on business and do better than friends, which I know I can.

Last thing you want to do is get a criminal record. So it's not worth breaking his windows or do dumb chit like that.
If you want to call the IRS, that's fine. It's up to you whether you want to or not.
Just don't do anything that you'll end up regretting, don't do anything on impulse. Fap and bust one out, then when you mind is clear, make a decision.

My advice would be... don’t share ideas

I could get someone in to do the legwork for my side hustle

But pretty obvious they would steal it and do it themselves

Basically be humble, quiet and ruthless

There's ton of black hat chit you can do that isn't technically illegal. It's super shady, but LOTS of businesses do it.

Spam all their reviews with fake negatives, steal employees with inside info, try to get their supply chain to cut them out, tie them up with frivolous lawsuits, and a million other things.
