Been thinking of getting a tattoo, something within the lines of;

Moreso leaning to the theme of martial arts and Japan

Any way to distinguish a decent tattoo artist then a chit one? Don't want to be going to do some dodgy tattoo shop that'll completely fuk it all up. I don't mind the price

If you have to ask the misc then you should absolutely not get a tattoo.

My brother's got the rising sun tattoo on his shoulder and a Japanese quote going down his middle back. Yeah it is a pretty huge decision so I'm pretty much just weighing it all up but still out to get information

You should think about getting one after you know exactly what you want. Not worth getting a "Theme" tattoo.
THat chit will stay with you forever and it better be something very important to you.

Decent tattoo artists have a good reputation, this is what you are looking for. Things to keep an eye out for:

- Portfolio of good work online
- Popular instagram/other social media presence with good referrals and compliments on their work on there
- a moderate to long waiting time for appointments
- Good word of mouth in your area
- Once you get to this stage: a good consultation and good sample drawings done for you

EDIT: Also look for artists who mainly work in the style you're looking to get, different artists have different strengths. For example some excel in tribal, some are better for portraits, some do better detailed work etc
Somehow still managing to avoid getting 'too big'

I don't mind the price[/QUOTE]line work, depth and shading r all hallmarks of a good tattoo artist. check a tattoo artist's portfolio online via instagram or their personal site first to get an idea of how skilled they r.

also if u want a japanese style tattoo, make sure u go to a tattoo artist who specializes in that style, dont go to a guy who does traditional american tattoos and then ask him to do a japanese style, he'll botch it and youll be unhappy with the result. shoulder placement is pretty tough (as in cool)

Tattoos aren't unique anymore. now a days it just looks tryhard. Letting some one scribble on your skin to try to look edgier is a low IQ move. Sloots ultimately end up respecting the alphas without tattoos more than the alphas with tattoos also

So he's done alot of martial arts, been to Japan and can read Japanese and talk Japanese so it's pretty much reflecting to my own interests of it. It's not try-hard at all, it's generally just art

maybe he likes the way it looks? hes a fan of the style? why is it obligatory for someone to be directly associated with the culture to appreciate and be inspired by that type of artwork... being tryhard is to be inauthentic, if that chit is true to him and his interests, then its not tryhard at all.

Look at the artists portfolio bro, do u like their style or work?
For instance I wanted a skull mandala on my forearm and when I picked my artist I knew his specialty was mandala plus he had done alot of skulls so I went for it, and I couldnt be happier with the results. So look for the artists style and what he likes to do the most.. in your case japanese stuff (already forgot what u wanted)
Also ask your friends, just look around alot and don't rush into it. It's hard to suggest someone good over the internet lol.
Good luck

I actually like this idea, your reference picture looks sweet. Don’t listen to *******s itt.

Start with a google search for artists in your area, look at their portfolios. Past work they’ve is honestly the only real good way of distinguishing who is the best artist for what you want. Instagram is probably the best way to find amazing artists; try hashtags relating to the theme. For the perfect artist for you, you may have to travel though. Most artists have their contact email in their bios for inquiries. Run your ideas by them and see what they have to say.

Good artists are not cheap whatsoever.. the best artists in the US are charging between 2-3k per day, but don’t go cheap and since that’s a small piece it won’t be crazy expensive.

Edit: just realized you’re in Australia.. not sure what pricing is like there but same rules apply.
