Can someone aware me on Covid vs Flu

Right I'm here to learn, I've heard the 'covid = flu' too often on the misc and have never heard more than a cherry-picked and non-substantiated argument for this but as someone who likes to get their information from multiple sources and prefers to think for themself I would like the opportunity to hear a decent argument for this here.

It seems that every single piece of credible research on all available data on both illnesses has found that Covid has a lethality that exceeds common influenzas by a bare minimum of 5-6 times (however this varies from place to place). Covid has already killed around 5 times the number of people who die yearly from flu in the US alone and that is even including the fact that the country was locked down (which isn't done for the flu). This is accounting even for a possible overestimation of asymptomatic and non-diagnosed cases.

I'm not advocating that Covid is a world ending illness and believe the response to it has been way overblown. However can someone please give me some genuine, backed up, well thought out info that defends the position that Covid is no more dangerous than the flu.

Fyi I do not accept 'most people who got it would have died soon anyway'. That is usually the case with almost all flu deaths. The common flu does not generally kill healthy young people and often the people that do die are near the end of their life or co-morbid either way. So the comparison here is redundant. I also will not accept 'most people who have had covid do not appear in the infection data'. Millions of people get the flu every year and never have it diagnosed and never get treatment for it.

Covid is probably slightly worse than the flu but like you say its really only killing the weaker people. Older people and people with pre existing health conditions. I had covid at the start of march and for me it was just a constant cough and i still worked out when i had it which was either stupid or im just dedicated haha probably a bit of both. My theory is things like covid and the flu exist to control the levels of the world population. Nature has a way of fighting back. Mankind causes alot of damage to the earth and believe things like this are a defence mechanism against us. 'Natural disasters' such as tsunamis are also another defence mechanism in my opinion. Sort of like the earths immune system. So i personally think pandemics will get worse overtime. I know that's not exactly what you asked but im just giving you my thoughts on it

Just killing weaker people does not make it equal to common influenza. Most diseases work that way. The fact that some people (yourself) only get minor symptoms doesn't mean it doesn't present as a serious disease for others. Even young/healthy people often get severe symptoms even if it does not result in fatality and fatality is not the only metric. Post-illness health impacts are also a concern.

The fact is that regardless of whether it is old people (who are actually quite a large subsection of society) or not, the mortality has been observed to be much higher and in those who do get more severe symptoms (which seems to be a higher percentage than for the flu), those symptoms are much more severe than flu symptoms. Unless someone can refute this to a better degree than:

"in a hospital round the corner from me a doctor told me only 1 person died and that it isn't that bad, you're all panicels lolz virus gonna virus. Imagine being so gullible as to not know that every single scientist in the world is a marxist NWO spy and in pay thrall to the communist media"

then I'm kindof failing to see their point here.

The fact is covid has been around for like 7 months and we have no idea what the long term effects are. Viruses stay in your body your whole life. Chicken pox reemerges later in life as shingles. Herpes keeps coming back over and over. HIV literally never leaves. Will covid come back later in life as something worse? Who knows...

Some miscers have lost loved ones and some have lost jobs/income so this thing is a touchy subject. I understand both viewpoints. Its deff not "just the flu" though

Kindof an unofficial call out here for 'it's a flu' brahs to actually argue their case with anything approaching coherent evidence that even approaches solid enough to undermine the very clear evidence to the contrary.

Nobody is saying it is worth sacrificing economies, locking people in their houses and backrupting a generation. All I'm discussing here is the fact that there is overwhelming evidence from dozens of countries that it is certainly more deadly a disease than the flu.

My mind is open ...

I think it can be just a flu for some people, others suffer severe complications which make it worse unlike the flu.
-Some people say good things come to those who wait, truth is, good things come to those who work..... who work later.....who work harder...... who are willing to go further than anyone else to get them. If you're waiting for good things to come to you, you'll be waiting for a pretty long time.

Kindof my point. The flu can be basically nothing for some people as can Covid. But when they are something the flu is far less likely to kill you than Covid

We shouldn’t be comparing apples and oranges.

- we are still learning of covid
-there is no vaccine but countries are working fast because the USA is doing a horrible job dealing with this crisis
-people are not wearing mask because thatS their right
-people are still gathering and socializing like it’s 2019

Not wearing a mask, self quarantining, and practicing social distancing is gonna equal more cases/deaths related to covid

I’ve done statistical data work for my workplace and work in covid Units so I have an idea of what people are more likely to get covid.

-Ages ranges from 19-90 y/o most patients are lates 20’s- late 50’s
- at least 80% of people I have taken care of are obese, Htn, and diabetes
-other pt I have managed have asthma, Copd, bronchitis

Idk what to say really haha any questions feel free to ask
