amateur vs pro boxer ?

so there's this guy who's 140 lbs and just recently started his pro boxing career, he's been boxing for like 10 years. he challenged me to do sparing with him and he is confident he will knock me out.

we are the same height but i have a stocky build and am around 225 at 15-17 bf%, he's around 8-10%, i know some basic boxing been training for like 1 year.


do you think i stand some chance against him ? will i get fuked ?

I mean if he is a 10 year "boxer" but has no fights, you might get lucky and do alright. If he already has some fights under his belt you will probably get washed but most boxers don't try to knockout others, especially less experienced while sparring. If you talked some chit though about how he couldn't knock you out or something, then he probably is going to try to drop you

I don't think those 80lbs are going to help you that much, but if you are athletic (and don't box clean e.g. a bit of wrestling) you can hold your own. 10 years of skill experience isa lotvs your 1 year experience.

You have a significant power advantage though, due to his much smaller frame.

Also, why are you guys going to do full contact sparring? Getting punched in the head is not good for you.

he's currently 3-0, all by KO, he even told me he will go easy on me.

Have fun with that...I sparred with an established featherweight once (something like a 10-0 record) and it felt like he was hitting me with bricks. He probably could have KO'd me pretty easily.

You best end the fight quickly or you will get gassed. I once fought for the title of a heavyweight backyard boxing tournament after being 3-0.

Oh if he already has some fights then is most likely disciplined. You will lose for sure but like I said if you don't go swinging for the fences he will probably just match your energy and tag you a bit but not go for KOS. Usually against someone less experience they will just work on head movement/blocking or match your energy. If you want to do it, I'd just say you were down to spar but you aren't trying to get KOd. Hope those abs are nice those cause going to be a lot of bodyshots

hes going to light your ass up big time man.

but atleast you know his strategy, i mean with little t rex arms you know hes going to have to crouch down and jump in and out to get in range. still wont matter though he will light you up

Dude I would not do this. Maybe in a MMA scenario but not pure boxing.

Good luck. He's faster, more experienced, and will have a reach advantage.

Back in the day I sparred with a pro. I hadn't been boxing long at all. I weighed about 175 and he weighed about 150. I couldn't even hit him 100% srs.

Luckily, he went easy and still kicked my ass. I learned a lot tho.

You should go for it. If anything, it will be a great learning experience about how much you suck.

This.

Short story. My childhood friend Brian Viloria became an olympic and then professional boxer. Has since retired. Nicknamed "Hawaiian Punch" cuz we're from Hawaii.

Sparred with him when we were kids (14-15 y/o) and was extremely humbled. Nothing like getting the confidence knocked out of you. He did not KO me btw.

Any Pro that is a decent person will not KO someone in a friendly sparring match, unless he is a complete prick.

You are going to gas almost immediately and then get as dominated as much as he feels like.

If you go out there and spar you will be fine, the second you try to hurt him, you will get KOed.
