It seems like one of the biggest reasons to get a big house

is for the room available to stock pile food and water rations, if society were to actually break down.

make sure you build your house multi-story high, higher floors help with look-out points and creating a gun nest high above the ground

never buy more house than you need. it's a big financial mistake with a lot of phantom costs that people never realize or talk about.

I bought a bigger house than I need because I turned the bottom floor into my home gym, man cave with its own kitchen and bathroom.

True to an extent but also very dependant on where/when you buy and for what reasons, property is a great way to make money as long as you’re smart about it and don’t expect to sell in a year or two and make a killing

The biggest noob mistake someone can make is not hiring a maid and giving her a room in the house. Bonus if she is smoking hot. Cringing hard rn if you don't have one

I’m guessing you a married too because as I was gonna say it’s never a bad thing to have more space to hide from the wife and set up a mad man cave/shed

Op, have you considered a vegetable patch/fruit trees? If you are clever with your plantings, you have a constant source of food all year round, then you have more room in the freezer to store meats etc. I also doubt most people actually want to put in the effort in to digging/picking someone else's stuff (they want a quick, easy grab and run):so it’s likely not as visible a target.

Also your own grown food is so much tastier.

You really don't need that much space, like a 10x10 area in the basement with shelves and a freezer is plenty.

Big houses have big expenses. People in my town are complaining about their high electricity bills, $600-$900 1 hot month for homes 3000 to 4500 sq ft. My home is smaller and well insulated, less than $300

The only reason men want a big house is so they see their wife and kids less often when stuck at home.

This. It would be awesome to buy a dilapidated factory or warehouse, which looks like somewhere NOBODY would want to rob. Erect a nasty looking barb wire fence around it, maybe hang some dead animals on the top.

You would have loads of cheap space and places to store food, weapons stockades etc.

Overpriced little city flats are for jokers.

I felt sincerely blessed as I struggled to find room in my pantry yesterday. That's how I like it. How to fit in the piles of boxes of oat meal, honey, dried milk, fruits? I survived, and now I have this bounty and my gym.

You’d be better off buying some land, building a house, and having an underground bunker with all of your stashed food in case chit hits the fan

Brb buy a place with acreage outside of the city. Maybe 1 hour max drive. Get it stocked up and prepped. Visit once per month to stay familiar

This is my goal but not necessarily goal to use as my primary residence until it’s clear I can WFH for the long term.
